ANI Tune of a master Mona G URDAS MAAN is someone special — three decades into singing as well as acting, his enthusiasm is still infectious. His latest music album, Punjab, is obviously generating a buzz and what makes it special is that his son, Gurickk Maan, is directing it. Three songs of the album — the title track, Makhana and Mittar Pyare Nu — touch different subjects. The first one is a commentary on the current times in the state; Makhana is a romantic number while the third is a haunting memory of Partition. He offers more... The album comes after three years, what took you this long? As an artiste, it is important that whatever one does is straight from the heart. During this period, I felt it was important to understand how the times have changed and what topics are the most relevant today. I did this by connecting with my fans through my live concert Gurdas Maan has achieved dizzying heights in the world of Punjabi music and cinema. With his latest album, Punjab — whose songs have been directed by his son Gurickk Maan — the legendary singer has added another feather to his cap tours around the world. Ki Banu Duniya Da on MTV Coke studio was one such attempt to send out a message on a platform that the youth connects with today. Your son Gurickk has directed these videos, how is the father-son working relationship? It’s always great to be directed by your son, however, initially I had my inhibitions because I had no idea what he was doing during the shoot; I would blindly follow. When I saw the song for the first time, I cried, which is when I felt that maybe my son does have a little talent! With Mittar Pyaare Nu, I felt a little more confident. It has been three years when your last film was released too...how is Nankana shaping up? Any other films on the anvil? The pre-production work on Nankana is on and the team is working on preparing things for the shoot. In addition, Gurickk has also been working on a script for some time now. I am really looking forward to that; I know he is going to make me work very hard. It’s great to see you on social media. How has it impacted your journey as an artiste? Social media is the new link with the audience, so it is imperative to be on it, especially for a person like me who takes immense inspiration from my fans. If used effectively and in moderation, it is a great tool to reach out to people. I get to read the comments and they give me an opportuni- Gurdas Maan; and posters of his song ❝ ❝ ONLY BELIEVE HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE AND NONE OF WHAT YOU HEAR. PEOPLE SHOULD BUILD THEIR PERCEPTIONS FROM THEIR HEART AND NOT FROM THEIR MINDS. ANALYSE BEFORE YOU CRITICISE. ty to understand my fans. However, not being able to respond to everyone is probably the only problem, but I am sure the fans understand. What does Gurdas Maan like apart from music? We read somewhere that you are football fan? I love writing and if not reading, I am doing that. Oh, yes, I love football and I am huge fan of Messi, not only because he is a great player, but also a great human being. His childhood struggles make him more likeable. How has your relationship to the stage changed over the decades? Stage has always been my first love, the ability to look right into the eyes of your fans and hold that contact makes me the happiest. My relationship with the stage has been the same since Britain’s Prince Harry and I are in love, says US actress Meghan Markle In lovely lanes Actress Meghan Markle, the girlfriend of Britain’s Prince Harry, has said they are in love and happy together, in her first frank comments about their relationship since they became a couple last year. Markle said she began dating Harry, fifth in line to the British throne, in July last year after she met him through friends. “We’re a couple. We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves. We’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story,” she said The relationship between Harry, 32, the younger son of heir-tothe-throne Prince Charles and his first wife Princess Diana, became public knowledge last November when the prince issued a rare warning to the media to leave his 36-year-old girlfriend and her family in peace, reflecting his own battles with the press. He was once pictured scuffling with paparazzi outside a London nightclub and in 2012 was photographed partying naked and playing billiards in a private room in Las Vegas. Happy space Asked how she coped with media intrusion, Markle, a divorcee best known for her role in the US TV legal drama Suits, said: “I can tell you at the end of the day I think it’s really simple. We’re two people who are really happy and in love.” She added: “We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news and I was working during that whole time and the only thing that changed was people’s perception.”Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.” The British royals, and particularly their often tangled love lives, provide worldwide fascination and on Tuesday, a French court was ordered to pay damages to Harry’s elder brother William and his wife Kate for breaching her privacy by publishing topless photos of her. Support system Markle said the attention of being involved with the prince had its challenges. “It comes in waves some days it can feel more challenging than others,” she said. “And right out of the gate it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend’s support.” Harry, once the wild child of the royal family who admitted smoking cannabis and getting drunk when under the legal age limit, has secured a place as one of Britain’s most popular royals since enjoying a successful military career, which saw him on active service twice in Afghanistan. — REUTERS c m y b WHEN I SAW THE VIDEO OF THE SHABAD, I ACTUALLY BECAME GURICKK’S FAN.
