He was ordered to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 10 years. A fine of Rs 15,000 was also imposed on the convict. He was booked on March 11, 2013, by the Focal Point police. Nandi was arrested in April from Bihar and the girl was rescued from his accommodation. OC Four booked for raping woman The Haibowal police have booked four persons for raping a married woman and also recording her video in an objectionable state. On the complaint of the woman, the police have booked Ram Kinkar, Aad Kumar, Sanjay Kumar and Prabhu. The woman told the police that the accused took her to some Passi Builder Farm House in Ludhiana on August 7, where they raped her. The police said raids were on to nab the accused. TNS Sister arrested for abetment to suicide Jaswant Shetra Jagraon, September 13 A married couple allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from the hooks of the ceiling fans in their house at Dalla village, near here, this morning. The deceased have been identified as Gurdeep Singh, alias Deepa (30), and his wife Harmit Kaur (26). Gurdeep, a truck driver, was married to Harmit of Dadhahoor village, near Raikot, only around a year ago. It was learnt that Harmit was pregnant. The incident came to light this morning when the couple did not come out of their room for quite a long time. When Gurdeep’s mother, Jaswinder Kaur, visited the couple’s room, she was shocked to see their bodies hanging from the ceiling fan in the room. Soon, a large number of villagers gathered The deceased, Gurdeep Singh and his wife Harmit Kaur. at the house. Some villagers informed the police, following which a police team reached the spot and launched investigation. The police took the bodies in its custody and sent them for post-mortem. The police have registered a case against Gurdeep’s sister Mandeep Kaur under Section 306 of the IPC and arrested her. According to the police, during ini- tial investigation, it came to light that the couple took the extreme step due to extramarital relationship of Gurdeep’s sister with a youth. According to information, Mandeep was married to a Sahnewal-based youth in 2008 but they separated after some years. She started living at her paternal house at Dalla village along with her 8-year-old son. According to sources, Mandeep had an extra-martial affair with a youth and Gurdeep used to object to it, which often resulted in tension in the family. Confirming the development, Hathur SHO Rajesh Kumar said: “Gurdeep Singh was insisting his sister Mandeep must end her relationship with the youth, but she was adamant to continue the relationship. Gurdeep was upset with his sister’s decision and he took the extreme step.” DIG records statements Ludhiana, September 13 The DIG (Jails) today visited the Central Jail here to conduct a probe into the allegations of drug supply in the jail levelled by its Medical Officer, Swarnjit Singh. The DIG (Jails), Lakhminder Singh Jakhar, recorded the statements of the jail inmates, who attacked the doctor, as well as the victim doctor. Jakhar, who has been assigned an inquiry into the incident by IG (Jail) RK Arora, while talking to Ludhiana Tribune on the phone, said: “I have come to record the statements of the jail inmates and the doctor. I will conduct a thorough probe into the allegations levelled by the doctor against the Jail Superintendent and other jail staff. Till ma, a Brahmin, were made to do the rounds of the office of the welfare officer to get the grant. The couple also went to the Welfare Department in Chandigarh, where they were told that their file was complete and there were no issues in the release of the grant. The couple approached Bains. His team gave the couple Rs-500 notes after noting down their serial numbers. The team made a video of the officer taking bribe money. But when the officer was shown the video, he denied having taken bribe. But later, the currency notes that Bains had given to the couple were found in the file the officer was carrying. The officer was later seen asking for forgiveness from the couple. His senior officer was also called by Bains. Couple commits Goggi arrested for blocking railway track, granted bail suicide at Jagraon ATTACK ON MEDICAL OFFICER IN CENTRAL JAIL Tribune News Service P4 Ludhiana, September 13 Team Insaaf chief and Atam Nagar MLA Simarjit Singh Bains has caught a corrupt Patwari and a welfare officer red-handed and posted videos of raiding them live on the social media. Bains caught Patwari Sukhwinder Singh Sodhi at Patwarkhana in Gill for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a resident, Manvinder Singh, for making an ‘intkaal’. After doing the rounds of his office, Manvinder approached Bains, who gave him currency notes after noting down their serial numbers. Bains, in the live video posted on the Facebook, said Manvinder went to meet Patwari today and handed him bribe money. But when he saw Bains coming, he fled the scene after giving the bribe money to his assistant’s son, who also tried to escape. However, his assistant’s son was caught by villagers. Bains said the five currency notes recovered from the assistant’s son bore the same numbers as noted down by him. “Around Rs 25,000 more were found in his pocket despite his salary being merely Rs 5,000,” Bains said. Bains has also posted a video of Welfare Officer for Ludhiana Tehsil Jagmohan Singh, who, he alleged, had sought Rs 5,000 as bribe for releasing money given by the government for inter-caste marriage to a couple. Bains said Nisha, who was a scheduled caste, and Prince Shar- the time investigation is on, it will be too early to say anything about the allegations. Once the probe is complete, I will submit my report to the senior officer for further action,” Jakhar added. The Medical Officer was yesterday attacked by jail inmates following which he accused the senior jail officials of orchestrating the attack. The also said drug supply was rampant in the jail and the senior jail officials were hand in glove with the inmates. Meanwhile, Dr Swarnjit Singh met Police Commissioner RN Dhoke and submitted a complaint to him. The police have registered a case against Baljit Singh, Arun Kumar and seven unidentified inmates. The doctor told media persons that he would stand by his allegations. The victim, Dr Swarnjit Singh, goes to meet the Police Commissioner on Wednesday. Goggi was later released on bail by the police on the submission of surety bonds of Rs 5,000. Meanwhile, Congress councillors and local leaders also gathered at Goggi’s house. On May 2, 2015, Congress workers, led by Goggi, who was also the DCC chief then, had blocked the railway track near Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib here. The railway police had registered a case under Section 147 of the Railway Act against Goggi. The railway police, led by Inspector Vinod Kumar, reached Goggi’s house and arrested him. He was taken to the railway police station where he was granted bail. Goggi, during media interaction, said it was political District Congress Committee chief Gurpreet Goggi being arrested by the railway police in Ludhiana on Wednesday. Tribune News Service Ludhiana, September 13 The city police have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of three of its members. They have been identified as Gurjit Singh Sunny (18) of Civil City, Shivam, alias Kala (19), from Haibowal Kalan; and Charanjit Singh, alias Annu, a resident of Thapar Colony. The ADCP RS Brar, ACP , Sachin Gupta and SHO of Division 4 Vijay Kumar today conducted a press conference. Brar said the accused had taken to crime to earn money in a short span of time. They had put a fake number plate on their motorcycle which they were using to commit snatchings. The ADCP said the police also impounded the motorcycle and recovered six mobile phones from their possession.
