Bruno Mars stole the show, winning seven trophies, including album of the year and record of the year for his album 24K Magic. His win was followed by Kendrick Lamar who took home five awards, defeating rapper 21-time Grammy Award winner Jay Z. Carrie Fisher was honoured with her first Grammy at the 60th annual Grammy Awards for best ‘spoken word album’ for her audiobook recording of her 2016 memoir, The Princess Diarist. Music legend Leonard Cohen posthumously won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance. Lamar, second best Lamar, 30, won five prizes in rap categories for his album DAMN and single Humble, beating Jay-Z’s 4:44. The rapper concluded his speech with a shout-out to Jay Z. Lamar shouted: “JayZ for president!” Jay Z acknowledged the rapper by giving a standing ovation to Lamar for his win. Saying it with a white rose Kesha took the stage by storm by delivering an emotional performance with a rendition of her ballad Praying, alongside Cyndi Lauper, Camila Cabello, Julia Michaels and Andra Day. The singers paid homage to the ‘Me Too’ and ‘Time’s Up’ movement, as they sang in unison before a chorus of women dressed in white. A white rose lay atop the piano as Elton John, who performed Tiny dancer with Miley Cyrus, made a subtle KENDRICK LAMAR but powerful acknowledgment to the Time’s Up movement. Anna Kendrick, who introduced John, also wore a white rose on her coat. Lady Gaga was another artiste who sneaked in the two words Time’s Up in the midst of her performance of Joanne, which she dedicated to her father’s late sister. Take a sad song Three country artistes, Brothers Osborne, Eric Church, and Maren Morris, who performed at the Las Vegas festival that became the setting of America’s deadliest mass shooting, reunited at the Grammy Awards. They performed a haunting version of Eric Clapton’s ballad Tears in Heaven. Paint it Pink Even after losing out to Ed Sheeran in the best pop solo performance category, Pink left her mark on the 2018 Grammys. Sheeran’s Divide was also named the year’s Best Pop Vocal Album. Last year’s film awards contender La La Land also picked up two wins for its soundtrack. The 26-year-old Sheeran was not present at the star-studded ceremony. Best of Latin pop Pop sensation Shakira took home the Best Latin Pop Album for El Dorado. Rita Ora, Cyndi Lauper and Lana Del Ray were among the many women who chose to accessorise their dresses with the rose. Host James Corden and other male stars, including Ryan Seacrest, Sting, Shaggy and Sam Smith, also wore a white rose in protest against sexual abuse and harassment.
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
