Investigating officer (IO) Sarwan Singh said the accused were identified as Sahil, alias Sukha, of Saidpur village. Pawan, of Saliachan village complained to the police that the accused and his two accomplices waylaid him in a Shahkot bazaar, and assaulted and snatched valuables from him on July 9. A bloody clash took place between two groups at the Sultanpur Lodhi Civil Hospital. Four youths were injured in the clash. The emergency ward of the Sultanpur Lodhi Civil Hospital turned into a battlefield following attacks of feuding parties against each other. A youth and his companion, who came to the Civil Hospital for treatment, were attacked with sharp weapons by some youths from the other group. Khaira demanded that the ASI’s brother should also be arrested immediately. There are reports that the ASI’s brother, who is on the run, has nine FIRs registered against him. Sources in the Police Department said the brothers had amassed huge wealth, including five luxury cars — a Range Rover, Mercedes and BMW — 40 acres of land and a luxurious house from the racket in the past few years. Jalandhar, July 19 Panic gripped Ladhewali market this morning after traders learnt that four unidentified men had looted Rs 14 lakh cash from the ATM of the State Bank of India (SBI). The looters came in a Swift car carrying gas cutter machines past midnight. They first black sprayed the CCTV cameras installed inside the ATM and worked to break open the cash shelves. They spent over an hour and fled in the car with the cash. The shopkeepers in the market area said the bank staff had not deployed any security guard, at least for the past two years at the ATM. His body with multiple injuries was found in a well under mysterious circumstances in Jagatpur Jattan village, near Phagwara, on Friday evening. On a complaint lodged by Resham Lal, father of the deceased, the police registered a murder case against two accused, identified as Kapil Dev and his son Gerry, residents of Jagatpur Jattan village. According to the police the deceased, Sukhvinder Kumar, had left his home on the evening of July 16, reportedly to attend to some work. Before leaving, Sukhvinder had a phone conversation with one Kapil Dev, a local resident, and later with his son. It is alleged that Sukhvinder left with Gerry that evening. When the staff went inside, they found the ATM machine cut open and partly burnt with soot all over. The police were immediately informed. Police teams, including ADCP-1 Akarshi Jain, ACP Amandeep Singh and Rama Mandi SHO Manjinder Singh, reached the spot. The police collected all evidence, including CCTV footages. Forensic teams also reached the spot to get more clues. Jain said, “We are working on leads that we have so far got from the site. The identity of the accused is yet to be established. Cloth merchant gets ~50L ransom call, death threat Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, July 19 Dasuya’s renowned cloth merchant was threatened over phone call, besides demanding Rs 50 lakh ransom from him. The caller, calling from a foreign number, introduced himself as a gangster and demanded ransom from the cloth merchant, while threatening to kill him in case of non-payment. As soon as the complaint of the incident was received, the Dasuya police registered a case against an unidentified person under various sections of the BNS on the statement of merchant identified as Raghav and started investigation into the matter. Giving information in this regard, Dasuya DSP Balwinder Singh Jaura said son of the said cloth merchant received a call from an unidentified person who threatened to kill him and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from him. He said a case was registered and probe initiated into the matter. Phagwara, July 19 In a major breakthrough, the police have arrested four accused involved in a recent armed attack at Bhakhariana village. Giving information in this regard, SSP Gaurav Toora said the arrested accused were identified as Damanpreet Singh, a resident of Gohalwar village, Tarn Taran district; Parminder Singh, alias Raja, a resident of Sultanwind Road, Amritsar; Gurjit Singh, alias Jeeta, and Malak Singh, both residents of Jhitakalan village, Amritsar district. The SSP said a .32 bore pistol used in the crime, along with four live cartridges, one Hero Splendor motorcycle believed to have been used during the attack, and four mobile phones were recov- ered from the accused at the time of arrest. The SSP said Damanpreet Singh had two cases — one under the NDPS Act and another under the Arms Act — registered against him. The other three accused had no previous criminal history, the SSP said. He said the incident occurred on July 9, when two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire on Paramjit Singh, a resident of Bhakhariana village, under the Rawalpindi police station. The assailants attempted to kill the victim, who sustained injuries in the attack. Following a statement by Manjit Singh, another resident of the village, a case was registered on July 10, 2025, under Sections 109 and 115(2) of the BNS, along with the Arms Act. —OC One booked for sexual assault, blackmail of UK-based woman Phagwara, July 19 A UK-based woman has filed a formal complaint alleging sexual assault, blackmail and financial extortion against a resident of Ferozepur district. A case was registered and referred to the NRI (Non-Resident Indian) wing of the district police for further investigation. According to a complaint submitted by the victim woman (Saroj-not real name) originally from Masetke village in Ferozepur district, currently residing in England, the accused — identified as Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Kamalwala village, Ferozepur district — allegedly lured her to a location in Sultanpur Lodhi under false pretences. There, she claimed, he physically assaulted her and engaged in non-consensual sexual acts. The complainant further alleged that the accused recorded explicit videos and photographs without her consent and later used these materials to blackmail her. According to her statement, she was threatened with the public release of these images and videos unless she complied with his demands, which allegedly included further unwanted sexual acts and monetary payments. The matter was initially brought before the local police, and based on the seriousness of the allegations, a case was registered. The Director General of Police (DGP), NRI Wing, Punjab, has given instructions to initiate a thorough inquiry into the matter. No arrest has been made so far. The police emphasised that an investigation was in its preliminary stage and due process would be followed to ensure justice to the victim. “The matter is sensitive and will be handled with utmost care, ensuring dignity and rights of both the complainant and the accused,” said an official from the NRI wing of the Police Department. — OC
