In a complaint filed with the police, the mother of the girl said her daughter had left home on the intervening night of April 28 and 29 without informing anybody about her whereabouts. She said on making an enquiry, she had learnt that the accused youth had abducted the girl. OC MAN BOOKED FOR EXTORTION Ludhiana: The police have booked a man, identified as Gurdeep Singh Kahlon, a resident of HIG Colony, Jamalpur, under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 7-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly intimidating staff of the subtehsil at Sahnewal and extorting money from the public for getting their sale deeds executed. A complaint in this regard was lodged by the police by the joint sub registrar, Sahnewal, stating the accused, along with other miscreants, used to threaten staff of the sub-tehsil office and put pressure on them to register sale deeds of persons from whom he had taken money. OC FOUR ARRESTED WITH DRUGS Ludhiana: The police have arrested Ramandeep Singh of Karnail Colony, Goraya, from Sandhu Colony on Tuesday when the accused was coming towards the city in a Maruti Swift car (bearing registration no. PB 37J 9252). The car was stopped at a naka on suspicion and search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 30 gm of heroin. He has been booked under the NDPS Act. In another incident, Charanjit Singh of Model Town, was nabbed from the Pakhowal Road canal bridge on Tuesday and 1.5 kg of opium was seized from him. He was coming on foot and the police had stopped him on suspicion. Raman Kumar of New Ashok Nagar, Salem Tabri, and Babu Kumar of Saroop Nagar, Salem Tabri, were arrested by the police at the grain market in Salem Tabri on Tuesday and 360 strips of Alprasafe 0.5 mg and 100 strips of Tramadol Hydrochloride 100 mg, both habit-forming narcotic drugs, were seized from them. A case has been resgistered under the NDPS Act. OC THREE HELD WITH ILLICIT LIQUOR Ludhiana: The police have arrested a woman, Bimla Bai, a resident of Razapur village, on Tuesday and made a seizure of 45 bottles of illicit liquor from her possession. A case has been registered. Another liquor smuggler, Deepak Kareer, a resident of New Tagore Nagar, was arrested from near Bhuriwala Chowk in Haibowal on Tuesday while going on a Honda Activa scooter (bearing registration no. PB GZ 7426). As many as 14 bottles of Royal Stag and 16 bottles of Imperial Blue whisky were seized from the accused. In another incident, Om Parkash, who runs a meat shop at Ramgarh, was arrested for allegedly selling liquor at his shop. During a raid, 36 bottles of Dollar Rum were recovered from his shop. All accused have been booked under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act. Notably, the NGT panel had pulled up the civic body authorities for poor solid waste management. The show-cause notices have been issued to MC Health Officer Vipul Malhotra, Chief Sanitary Inspector Amir Singh Bajwa, Superintending Engineer (SE) Parveen Singla and JE (Horticulture) Kirpal Singh. The two women, identified as Paramjit Kaur, a resident of Bharat Nagar, and Manjit Kaur of Shimlapuri, were booked under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC for fraud and fabrication of documents on the complaint of Vishal Gupta, a resident of Bharat Nagar. According to the complainant, the women allured his wife Shikha Gupta to join a kitty of Rs 20,000 per month. In the course of time, the women manipulated Shikha to make an investment of Rs 30-32 lakh with them and also duped her of gold jewellery, including a gold set, gold chain and a mangal sutra. No arrest has been made so far in the case. In another incident of fraud, two persons, Mohammed Rizwan, owner of Saif Property, Tajpur Road, and his accomplice Mohammed Ishaq of Araria (Bihar), were booked under Sections 420 and 120-B on the complaint of Shaina Khatoon, a resident of New Friends Colony, Jassian Kalan. In her complaint to the police, Shaina said the duo had made a deal with her to sell a piece of land measuring 10,407 sq yards in Jassian and had paid a sum of Rs 10.5 lakh as advance. MC Executive Engineer Ranbir Singh said the connections of Pardeep Sandhu Colony Part A, B & C, Shadi Lal Colony, Jot Enclave and Gopal Market on Tibba Road, Khalsa Colony and Krishna Colony on Bhamian Road were disconnected. Besides, the sewer connection of Victory Colony near Guru Amardas Nagar had also been snapped. The colonisers of these colonies had got the sewer connections linked with the MC sewer lines without permission, MC officials said. He assumed office after the retirement of incumbent Jasvir Singh. Gill had last served as Chief Engineer/Commercial at Patiala and he has a rich experience of 32 years in the PSPCL in various capacities. Born in March 1967, Gill did his graduation from Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana, and then joined the PSPCL as Assistant Engineer in November 1989. During the span of nearly 32 years, he served on various positions — mainly in operation, enforcement, billing, technical, audit and commercial wings of the PSPCL. Ludhiana, May 4 The police have arrested two vehicle thieves identified as Taranjit Singh, a resident of Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar, Dugri, and Amarjot Singh of Bulara village under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC from near the Ganda Nullah puli in Puneet Nagar here on Tuesday. The CIA-2 team, led by SI Pawanjit Singh, arrested them on the basis of a tip-off. Based on information provided by the accused during preliminary investigation, the police made recovery of five stolen motorcycles, which included one Hero Splendor Smart motorcycle (bearing registration no. In a complaint to the police, Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Hara Colony in Sahnewal, said he had hired the woman from an agency, Ishwar Health Care at Home, in Kochar Market here over two months ago to take care of his mother Kulwant Kaur. He said the accused had stolen a mangal sutra of his wife and had fled. The police have charged the accused under Section 380 of the IPC. The police have booked two persons identified as Darshan Singh, a resident of Manjit Nagar, and Suraj Kumar Nepali of near Lakkar Pul area under Section 379-B, IPC, on the basis of reliable information that the accused were involved in several cases of loot, snatching and theft from migrants and other persons at weapon-point in engine shed, bus stand and surrounding areas. The police said a manhunt had been launched to apprehend the accused.
