FORECAST MAINLY CLEAR SKY INBRIEF 2 SMUGGLERS ARRESTED WITH OPIUM Ludhiana: The Samrala police nabbed two drug smugglers and recovered 50 gram of opium from their possession. Apart from opium, the police also recovered a .32-bore pistol along with six cartridges. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the smugglers, identified as Randhir Singh of Amar Nagar, Malout, and Damanjit Singh of Sector 8, Chandigarh. The SSP, Khanna, Ravi Kumar, said secret information was received that the two drug smugglers used to bring opium from big smugglers living in other states and sell it to their clients in Ludhiana. Accordingly a naka was laid near Samrala, where the Swift car in which the smugglers were travelling was stopped for checking. During the frisking of the car’s occupants, the opium was recovered. TNS TWO HELD WITH 2.6-KG OPIUM, 10-KG POPPY HUSK Ludhiana: The Khanna police on Saturday arrested two smugglers and recovered 2.6 kg of opium and 10 kg of poppy husk from them. The arrested smugglers have been identified as Inderjit Singh and Gurpreet Singh of Harion Kalan, Khanna. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against them at the Khanna police station. The SSP, Khanna, Ravi Kumar, in a statement said during a routine checking, a truck (PB10HB1784) was stopped for checking. During the checking of the truck, the narcotics were recovered. The SSP said the smugglers were on the way to deliver consignment of drugs to their clients. The barber was killed by slitting his throat with a sharp razor on Friday night. Both started arguing and Satyam took a razor lying on the table and attacked the shop owner. After the barber suffered serious wounds on his throat, he fell on the ground. Satyam considering him dead, closed the shop’s shutter and fled, Inspector Juneja said. “Today when we started a probe and questioned some persons, the name of the suspect cropped up. When Satyam was rounded up, he confessed to having committed the murder. Satyam admitted that after arguments they both scuffled during which he took a razor and slit the throat of the barber,” added Inspector Juneja. Ludhiana, May 7 A 20-year-old engineering student of Punjab Agricultural University, Renu Bala, today committed suicide at the Hostel No. 11 of the university. Her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the hostel room on Saturday evening. Belonged to Nangal Bhor village, Pathankot, the girl was studying in BTech (Food and Technology) second year in the university. Meanwhile, the PAU police were informed and they shifted the body to the Civil Hospital for postmortem examination. The family of the deceased was informed. Classmates of the deceased said Renu Bala was good in studies and she was a lively girl. No new case in district Tribune News Service Ludhiana, May 7 No fresh Covid case and no death due to the disease was reported in the district today. A total of 1,09,881 persons have tested positive for the virus since March 2020, while 2,280 persons from the district have succumbed to the virus till now. The recovery rate of Covid19 patients was 97.91 per cent today. There were 20 active cases in the district and 19 patients were asked to isolate themselves at their homes by the Health Department.
