It takes years, lots of money and several surveys before executing a particular project. The Unique Identification (UID) number plate project is one of the several works that remain in limbo. The main aim of the project is to bring transparency in property tax collection. As per information received from the MC, a survey of the entire city was done in the year A survey of the entire city was done in 2016 in which over 2,50,000 properties were identified. It is reported that over ~1 crore was given to a private company for carrying out the survey 2016 in which over 2,50,000 properties were identified. It is reported that over ~1 crore was given to a private company for carrying out the survey. But years passed and there is still no headway. Last year, Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company started doing a survey ‘again’ to verify if there is any update on the survey work done in 2016. Under the survey, the verification of more than 1 lakh properties has been done and now the survey of rest of the properties will start in the coming days for which an estimate of ~45 lakh has been made under the Smart City mission. Once the survey is completed and above 2,50,000 lakh properties will be checked again, then unique ID number plates will be given to every household and property and these number plates with a particular QR code will be installed outside every property. The owner will be able to pay property tax by clicking at that QR code. The information will then be saved with the Municipal Corporation, which will help the officials recover property tax without any problem or any proper information. At present, the project has come under the Smart City mission and will be funded by them. When asked an official why there was a halt between 2016 and 2021, there was no proper reply. Civic body Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma said, “The vendor has been selected and the work of fixing the number plate will start soon. We are also trying to start the survey again, which has been pending.” Back from scouting camp, these young kids are a changed lot Aakanksha N Bhardwaj ❝It is very important for the parents to understand that a Tribune News Service Jalandhar, May 24 Dressed in proper uniform, students in the 5-10 age group singing songs, giving salutes, performing various activities, playing games, etc, during a camp is a rare sight in government schools. TRIBUNE PHOTO py after seeing changes in behaviour of their children. There were times when there was a craze among students and their parents for scouts and guides. But these days, it is found that only a few schools take the initiative to run such camps. Young students who participate in scouting camps learn about basics and important things in life. They learn to obey their elders, do at least one good deed every day, take care of nature, maintain c m y b hygiene and possess good values during the camp. These students were from Government Primary Schools based in Rurka Kalan, Chachradi and Beer Bansiya of the district. Boys in the camp are known by the name of ‘Cub’ and girls by the name of ‘Bulbul’. Buta Ram, head teacher from the Rurka Kalan (Girls) school, said the parents were overwhelmed at seeing their wards. “There are various activities that are held during the four-day period. There is a special song, pledge and salute by the cubs and bulbuls. Besides, various sports activities are held. Students are asked to wear proper uniform. A knot is also tied around their neck and the students are then asked to do a good deed daily and only open once they do something good. This inculcates good qualities in students. Parents share that their young wards were now helping them in works which they never did before,” the teacher shared. The best performers then get qualified for the state-level and then national-level camps. Neeta Kashyap, State Organising Commissioner, Scouts and Guides, said it was very important for the parents to understand that a student should not only be academically excellent, but there should be overall development too.
