Jagtar Singh, a resident of Ramgarh village, had lodged a complaint with the police that a caller introduced himself as his nephew. After this, the accused trapped him in his words and told him that he needs ~5 lakh that he transferred in an account number given by the caller. When he enquired about this from his relatives, he came to know that he had been cheated. The police have registered a case. OC TWO-DAY REMAND FOR GANGSTER Hoshiarpur: Four days ago, Hariana Police had arrested five youths during a naka and seized from them three pistols, 22 live cartridges and sharp weapons. Now, the police brought gangster Binny Gujjar on production warrant from jail on Monday for probe and took him on two days remand. During interrogation, it was revealed that the said accused were going to attack another group out of revenge. OC INTOXICANTS, DRUG MONEY SEIZED Hoshiarpur: After a tip-off, the Mahilpur police raided a house and arrested two persons, including a woman, and seized 60 grams of narcotic powder and ~27,500 drug money from them. The accused have been identified as Ravinder Kaur, a resident of Langeri Road, Mahilpur, and Sukhdeep Singh, alias Kaka, a resident of Ward No. 7 Mahilpur. They have been booked under the NDPS Act. OC BIKER DIESAFTER BEING HIT BY BUS Hoshiarpur: A bike rider died after being hit by a bus on Monday. Parupkar Singh, a resident of Mahimowal village, told the police that his father Trilochan Singh was going to Hoshiarpur for some work on his bike. When he reached near Piplanwala, a bus of Punjab Roadways Ferozepur Depot passing by, hit him. His father died due to a serious head injury. The bus driver fled after the incident. The police have registered a case. OC ONE BOOKED FOR SEEKING DOWRY Hoshiarpur: The police of Bullowal police station have registered a case against a person for reportedly torturing his wife for the alleged demand of more dowry. Surinder Kaur, daughter of Pyara Ram, a resident of Chakkowal Shekhan, told the police that she was married to Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Goraya village, under police station Hariana. According to her, after marriage, her husband started harassing her for the alleged demand of more dowry, not seeing the demand being fulfilled, the accused threw her out of the house. SUNRISE THURSDAY 5:22 AM WEDNESDAY | 8 JUNE 2022 | JALANDHAR Fed up of poor civic amenities, city residents write to CM SMART CITY?Say it has been nearly six years since Jalandhar was included in the list of Smart City project, but ground reality is that people are crying over traffic woes, faulty streetlights and poor waste management Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 7 A city-based social organisation, which has been working for the welfare of Jalandhar city since past many years, in a letter addressed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Chief Secretary A Venu Prasad have complained about poor civic amenities in Jalandhar and suggested ways on how to make it a smart city in real. The letter has been drafted after consulting residents of different localities, residential clubs, welfare societies and among other social organisations, who have been working to make Jalandhar a clean and green city. Talking to Jalandhar Tribune, SP Virdi, general secretary of Royal Club, said there were solutions to all civic issues but only if authorities concerned implement it effectively. “The MC has put banners of Smart City across Jaland- Residents have not only apprised the CM of the problems, but also suggested some ways through which all these civic issues could be resolved. Meanwhile, in the letter addressed to the CM and the CS, the club highlighted that under the Smart City project, the MC has promised well- paved roads, traffic management, LED lights, integrated command and control centre, spruced up walkways, roadside benches, better landscaping of green belts, escalator, ramps at railway station, waste management, etc, in the city, but none of these facilities are available to them yet. He said he has not only apprised the CM of the problems, but the club members, after consulting residents, industrialists and other organisations, have suggested some ways through which all these civic issues could be resolved. Divulging details about the suggestions proposed, Virdi said shifting of new grain market near Workshop Chowk along with FCI and Markfed godowns to some outer area, proper managements at old sabzi mandi at Maqsudan, shifting of cremation grounds at Kishanpura and Harnamdasspura, installation of CCTV cameras, construction foot overbridge at the main gate of Civil Hospital, dividers at Ram Nagar railway crossing and at Gazigulla crossing, checking of unfit vehicles, deployment of more police personnel on road to check traffic and violations and segregation of waste and proper mechanism for its disposal, etc. He said mere tall promises and furore at MC meetings won’t solve these long-pending issues and a well chalkedout strategy was required to make Jalandhar a Smart City. They were riding a Scooty and were hit by a truck. According to information, the three girls of BA (Part II) were returning home. When they reached near Mata Rani Chowk, they were hit by a truck, due to which one of them died on the spot while two others were seriously injured. The injured were brought to the Mukerian Civil Hospital. The victims were identified as Preeti of Dugri Awana and Neha and Tamanna (both sisters) of Parika. Tamanna died on the spot. Seeing Preeti’s Preeti (L) and Tamanna, victims critical condition, doctors referred her to a specialty hospital, but, she died on her way to Pathankot. The police have arrested accused driver Bikram Singh of Chakk Sheron village and taken the vehicle in their possession. The Mukerian police have also registered an FIR against the accused under Sections 304-A, 279, 337 and 427 of the IPC. Jalandhar, June 7 A minor girl allegedly died by suicide here. She was working as a domestic help at the house of a popular mobile house owner. The incident took place on late Monday night in the Adarsh Nagar area. Reportedly, 14-year-old Anjali hanged herself to death after which, the owner of the house informed the police. The minor was rushed to a hospital, but was declared brought dead. According to the police, Anjali was a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district. SHO Bhushan Kumar said they received a call from Vishal Chaddha, who informed them about the incident.
