The deceased has been identified as Pappi, a native of Uttar Pradesh. Pappi’s brother Om Parkash said her sister was working in some factory. She was not going there for the past three months and staying at home only. All family members had gone for work on Monday. When they returned home in the evening, they found her hanging from the ceiling fan. ASI Meharban police station Varinder Singh said after the postmortem examination, the body was handed over to the family members. Further proceedings have been initiated into the matter. In a complaint submitted to the SSP Khanna, , the man alleged that the suspects, who were yet to be arrested, had been issuing life threat to him. On May 25 this year, complainant Yusuf, who is the woman’s father, got a case registered under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, and Section 498-A (Dowry) of the IPC against his son-in-law Gulzar, his parents Gulam Nabi and Sakina, who are residents of Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, and a middleman, Noor Mohammad of Chownkiman, Jagraon. Gulzar, in connivance with others, had sent ‘triple talaq’ in writing to his wife living at Kuba village after his demand for a car and ~2 lakh was turned down by his in-laws. A few days after the registration of the case, the suspects started threatening him and were pressuring him to take back police case, Yusuf alleged. “I submitted a complaint to the SSP Khanna, and , sought immediate arrest of the suspects. The SSP had asked the Samrala DSP for necessary action, but the suspects are yet to be nabbed,” alleged Yusuf. Samrala SHO SI Bhinder Singh said the middleman had already got the interim bail from the court and he had already joined the investigation, while other suspects belonged to Himachal Pradesh. Their arrest warrant was being sought and raid would be conducted soon to nab them. About the threat complaint by Yusuf, the SHO said the complainant had not met him so far. As the bus stand was closed, buses halted on the main road, leading to traffic jams. A large number of passengers were seen waiting for the resumption of the bus service at the bus stand. Shamsher Singh, State General Secretary of the union, said the bus stands across the state were closed to mark the protest by the contractual employees. The protesting members said the contractual workers were still struggling for their rights even during the regime of the AAP government in the state. Now, they were being forced to protest even to get their salaries released. The protesters said bus drivers and conductors were working under mental stress and their families faced financial problems. Improvement Trust officials swing into action Issue notices to allottees of booths in Kitchlu Nagar market for violations Kuldip Bhatia Ludhiana, June 21 Officials of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) have swung into action against allottees of booth numbers 6 and 7 and 18 and 19 in the G-block of the Kitchlu Nagar market (near BVM School) here. After the allottees encroached upon the front corridor by illegally extending area of their booths, clubbed two booths together and partly demolished the structure for the construction of stairs to the upper floor, the LIT issued them notices to immediately stop illegal construction and/or extension being carried out in these booths, which was in clear violation of the terms and A construction in violation of the standard design outside a booth in the Kitchlu Nagar market, Ludhiana. Machhiwara resident consumes poison, dies Ludhiana, June 21 A man committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Behlolpur village in Khanna district. He also recorded a video before taking the extreme step in which he held his in-laws responsible for his death. The deceased has been identified as Gurdeep Singh of Rosra village, Machhiwara. The police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Gurdeep’s father-in-law Sohan Singh, mother-in-law Rajwinder Kaur, brother-inlaw Honey and Harsh. The complainant, Jaswant Singh, father of Gurdeep, said his son got married to Ranjit Kaur in 2018. A marital dispute arose between the couple around a year ago. Later, both started living separately. Since his wife went abroad, their son Gurfateh was living with his maternal grandparents at Behlolpur village. The suspect has been identified as Satish Sarpal (61), while his family members have been identified as his daughter Poonam, son Gaurav Sarpal and Gaurav’s wife Ritu. The rape case was registered against Satish, while his family members were booked under other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The victim’s mother told the police that Satish, who is their neighbour, called her daughter to rectify some problem in Wi-Fi on June 18. When she reached there, Satish sought sexual favours from her. When she refused, the suspect forcibly attempted to rape her. “My daughter managed to escape from there and reached the house. In no time, Satish, along with his family members, barged into our house and attacked my daughter. When we raised the alarm, they fled from the spot,” the complainant alleged. MLA Gogi visits automated driving test centre Ludhiana, June 21 Gurpreet Gogi, MLA from Ludhiana (West), visited the automated driving test centre at Civil Lines here today after reports of applicants returning due to non-operational CCTV cameras there. The MLA heard the problems being faced by applicants at the centre. Gogi asked the secretary, Regional Transport Authority, to get the cameras repaired and make operation normal at the centre. According to an official, two non-functional cameras for two-wheeler driving test were required to be replaced.
