Parekh, 79, will be presented with the award during the 68th National Film Awards ceremony, to be held on Friday. The five-member Dada Saheb Phalke Award committee comprising Asha Bhosle, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon, Udit Narayan and TS Nagabharana decided on Parekh’s name for the honour, Thakur told reporters in his constituency Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. “They decided in the meeting that this time Asha Parekh ji will be honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, which will be presented during the National Film Awards ceremony. It is a matter of pride for the ministry to announce this prestigious award for the veteran actress,” the minister said. Known for starring in over 95 films that include Dil Deke Dekho, Kati Patang, Teesri Manzil, Baharon Ke Sapne, Pyar Ka Mausam and Caravan, she is considered one of the most influential actresses of all time in Hindi cinema. She started her career as a child artiste with the 1952 film Aasmaan and went on to star in Bimal Roy’s Baap Beti two years later. Parekh made her debut as a leading lady in Nasir Hussain’s 1959 movie Dil Deke Dekho, in which she starred opposite Shammi Kapoor. Also a director and producer, Parekh had helmed the acclaimed TV drama Kora Kagaz in the late 1990s. The screen legend also served as the first female chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) from 1998-2001. She came out with her autobiography, The Hit Girl, co-written by film critic Khalid Mohamed, in 2017. So, to find actor Saurabh Shukla and filmmaker-producer Rahul Mittra together for a leisurely chat was too good an opportunity to miss! In Chandigarh for the fourth edition of Indus Valley International Film Festival, they also found time to teach a thing or two to the budding artistes who aspire to join the industry. “I don’t teach, I just talk,” says Shukla, who thinks he has much to take back from his masterclass/workshop as do the students. “For a session to be successful, an exchange of ideas is a must. I am happy to take back some lessons from the interactions. You give some and you take some, and that’s what motivates us to be a part of such festivals,” adds the Satya actor. On the Oscar entry from India which was the case in 1998 when Jeans was chosen over his film Satya and this year Chhello Show over RRR or The Kashmir Files, Shukla refuses to be drawn into the debate. He says, “I am an actor and I am unaffected by what my film earns in the name of rewards or awards.” Mittra too refuses to comment as he has not watched all the films in question. After Chandigarh, I will be heading to Srinagar Literary Festival. I often say I am just a call away for any discussion, festival or event as long as it is related to films. Though my father had no interest in movies, he used to take us, me and my elder brothers, to watch movies. And among us, only I was besotted.” After acting in Torbaaz, a movie which he produced, Mittra is polishing his acting skills. He is a part of two upcoming projects as actor. He will be playing a politician in Randeep Hooda’s upcoming series. He also played an antagonist in a biopic based on Jaswant Singh Khalra. Shukla too has completed a web series, Pop Kaun, by Farhad Samji. The second season of his series Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein will also release soon. In the meantime, he is enjoying the success of his recent thriller Dahan: Raakan Ka Rahasya. Hrithik Roshan to play Dev in Brahmastra 2? Hrithik Roshan has been making headlines ever since his name cropped up as one of the potential actors to essay the role of Dev in Brahmastra Part 2. Now, Hrithik dropped a hint about being a part of Brahmastra 2 and also Ramayan. We would exchange pleasantries. I would love to visit Sector 17 before going back.” It’s Shukla’s second visit to the city for a film festival. Earlier, he attended the Chandigarh University Music and Film Festival. He says, “You will find me at Sports Complex, Sector 23 whenever I am not shooting. When we were shooting for Babli Bouncer here, I played with almost every table tennis player from tricity.” Team Adipurush Adipurush teaser to be launched on October 2 By the river of Sarayu Filmmaker Om Raut is gearing up for his next film, titled Adipurush. It stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan and Sunny Singh. After a long wait, the muchanticipated teaser and poster of the film are set to be unveiled on October 2 on the bank of Sarayu in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The grand event will be attended by Prabhas and Kriti Sanon along with director Om Raut and producer Bhushan Kumar. The film is based on the epic of Ramayana, showcasing the triumph of good over evil. This religious town in Uttar Pradesh is also the birthplace of Lord Ram. The film features Prabhas as Lord Ram, while Kriti plays the role of Janaki (Sita). Saif Ali Khan will be seen as Lankesh and Sunny Singh as Lakshman. Adipurush is said to be a visual extravaganza slated to release on January 12 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
