Investigating officer (IO) Kulwindar Singh said the suspects have been identified as Gurbaj Singh and Gurmukh Singh of Pandori Khas village. Simaranjit Kaur — the wife of Jaswant Singh, the victim — had complained to the police that the suspects had attacked her husband on November 23, leaving him seriously injured. The IO said a case has been registered under Sections 307, 323, 341, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC in this regard. OC ONE HELD WITH BANNED STRING Jalandhar: Cracking down on those selling a banned Chinese string in the city, the CIA Staff of the Commissionerate police today arrested one person and seized three bags containing 120 big spools of the banned Chinese string from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Subhash, a resident of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar here. TNS Drivers said they had appealed to the state government on January 9 to bring ambulance drivers under the government and to cancel all contracts with private firms. They said the government already spends Rs 5 to 6 crore on private companies, instead of this, it should employ 108 Ambulance drivers for the same services. They also demanded that ambulance drivers in Punjab should be given salaries like the drivers in Haryana. They said in Haryana, ambulance drivers get Rs 30,000 to 45,000 per month as salaries and also insurance. Association members said a team was meeting the Health Minister on the issue, and based on the outcome of the meeting, they would decide the next course of action. They said if the government still didn’t relent, they will block the road near the toll plaza, in an intensification of their protest. Jalandhar, January 12 To mark the festivities of Lohri, the Jalandhar Development Authority (JDA) and Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) will conduct an eauction of residential, commercial, chunk and group housing sites from January 13 at 9 am. The e-auction would conclude on January 31 at 1 pm. An official spokesperson for the Housing and Urban Development Department revealed that sites put on eauction are situated in various localities of Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, MINIMUM BIDDING PRICE FOR RESIDENTIAL PLOTS ~13.89L; FOR COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES, ~15.43L Mukerian and Sultanpur Lodhi. A total of 151 sites, comprising 82 residential plots, 67 commercial properties such as SCO, SCF, SCS, booths etc., a chunk and a group housing site, are up in the e-auction, he added. The minimum bidding price for residential plots has been kept at Rs. 13.89 lakh and Rs 15.43 lakh will be the starting price for commercial properties. The commercial chunk has been priced at Rs 14.22 crore. Woman killed as scooty collides with truck Nawanshahr, January 12 A woman from Rahon lost her life as her vehicle collided with a truck today. The father of the deceased, Harpreet Kaur, said his daughter had come to meet him. “After some time, she asked me to stay at her home for a day. I agreed and we left for her home. While I was on my bike, she was on her scooty. Suddenly a truck that was in front of us applied breaks, and the scooty collided with it after which she fell fatally," the father told in his complaint to the police. The driver is at large and police are yet to nab him. A case under Sections 279, 304A and 427 of the IPC has been registered. — TNS c m y b Jalandhar, January 12 As many as 28 food establishments in Jalandhar district have received their first-ever hygiene ratings from FSSAI after a detailed survey conducted lately by the authority in association with the district Health Department. District Health Officer Dr Reema Jammu said during the survey status of different health and hygiene parameters was checked that included water-testing and pest control reports, availability of temperature-checking devices, FOSTAC training, medicals of the staff, store checking, kitchen inspection and food quality besides other hygiene conditions. On the basis of above-mentioned parameters, the hygiene rating has been issued by the FSSAI to all participating 28 food outlets, she said, adding rating certificates were also being issued to participants. Dr Jammu said more outlets would be covered in the coming days so that people get hygiene information about maximum food establishments before they dine in or order food from these outlets. She also said the rating would be updated every year after fresh a survey.
