The chief guest took the salute from the marching contingents of the Punjab Police, Home Guards, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guides, led by parade Commander IPS Jasroop Kaur Bathh, during a march past. Colourful programmes comprising a mass PT show, giddha, bhangra and other traditional folk dances enthralled the audience. The Speaker also felicitated eminent freedom fighters. Officials said the clinics would function digitally continued on page 2 Husband, in-laws booked for woman’s death Ludhiana, January 27 After a woman died under mysterious circumstances at Gulabi Bagh, the Tibba police yesterday registered a case against the woman’s husband, Pawan Kohli, father-inlaw Jagdish Kohli and brother-in-law Subash Kohli. The deceased has been identified as Pooja (23). Complainant Satyam Kumar, deceased’s brother, told the police that his sister got married to Pawan in 2018. Soon after marriage, her husband and other members of her inlaws’ family started torturing her for want of more dowry. On January 25, he got a call from his sister’s in-laws who informed him that Pooja’s health deteriorated and she was taken to the Christian Medical College and Hospital here. The value of the seized heroin in the international market is said to be about Rs 50 lakh. Besides, the police seized Rs 7.70 lakh drug money, four illegal weapons of .32 bore, 17 live cartridges and a Hyundai Verna car (bearing registration no. PB 92 8000) from the suspects. The suspects have been identified as Amandeep Singh, alias Romy, of Kot Mangal Singh (30) and Gurpreet Singh (26) of Rama village in Moga. Police Commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu, DCP (Investigation) Varinder Singh Brar, ADCP (Investigation) Rupinder Kaur Sran, ACP Gurpreet Singh and CIA in-charge Inspector Beant Juneja addressed a press conference in this regard. Sidhu said the CIA team had got a tip-off that the duo were notorious smugglers. Accordingly on January 25, Gurpreet was arrested with 20 gm of heroin, a .32 bore pistol with six live cartridges. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
