Pradeep Kumar was hit by a car near Phagwara bypass; he died on the spot. Paramjit Singh, a resident of Shergarh, was killed after his erickshaw was hit by a car. In another case, Kishan Kumar was returning home on a scooter after closing his shop. When he reached near his village, a truck hit him. He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to injuries. OC TEACHER ARRESTED FOR MOLESTATION Hoshiarpu: The Bullowal Police have registered a case against a government school teacher and arrested him for allegedly molesting schoolgirls. As per the police, a resident of Shamchurasi complained that Satnam Singh, a resident of Chakk Raju Singh village and teacher posted in the Government Middle School, allegedly molested her daughter and two other students studying in the school. Sub-Inspector Kamaljit Singh, who is investigating the case, said after registering a case on the said complaint, the accused has been arrested and sent to jail after medical examination. OC Councillor dies by suicide, leaves note blaming ex-CPS Tribune News Service Jalandhar, January28 Congress councillor Sushil Vicky Kalia died after he consumed a poisonous substance in his factory near Amritsar bypass this afternoon. A resident of Shiv Nagar and councillor from Ward No.64, he was rushed to Sacred Heart Hospital where he passed away during treatment. Kalia, had an FIR lodged against him at the Police Station Division No. 8 for allegedly misusing government grants sanctioned to welfare societies under the Punjab Nirman scheme. He has mentioned that he was being coerced to pay Continued Page 2 One held with stolen revolver Tribune News Service Jalandhar, January 28 The Division Number 4 police today arrested a person and recovered a stolen revolver from his possession. The accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Basti Danishmanda here. Police officials claimed they had received a complaint yesterday from Jarnail Singh, a resident of Safdarpur village in Hoshiarpur that his licensed revolver was stolen from his car’s dashboard. In his complaint, he told the police that on the night of January 26, he came to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, and parked his car outside the child care ward. He said when he came back, he saw the dashboard was lying open, and his revolver was missing. Continued Page 2 Man opens fire on police at naka, arrested Jalandhar, January 28 A man was arrested with two pistols and live ammunition when he tried to fire at police officials at a naka here on Wednesday. SSP Swarandeep Singh said at a special naka on January 26, a police party spot- ted a man walking from Fatehpur Bhangwa village towards the bundh. The man on approaching near the patrol party was indicated to stop, on which, he took out a pistol from his right pocket and fired in the air towards the police party. The police party then apprehended the man and recovered a pistol .32 bore along with 17 live rounds and a .315 bore pistol with three live rounds from the accused. VB nabs accused in JIT fraud case Jalandhar, January28 The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday arrested an accused, Gurdeep Singh, who had been absconding for about three years and five months in an embezzlement case pertaining to the land of Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT). In this case, a total of 12 accused have been arrested so far and the search for the rest is going on. A spokesperson for the VB said that 94.97 acres was acquired by the JIT in Surya Enclave extension, but at the time of paying the compensation, many accused had embezzled the compensation amount to the tune of Rs 5,49,18,523 in the names of fake persons and by preparing forged documents of the Improvement Trust in connivance with the JIT officials. The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
