This is the second high-profile arrest involving an AAP minister in Delhi. Last May, the Enforcement Directorate had arrested Delhi Health and Power Minister Satyendar Jain for money laundering. Jain is lodged in Tihar jail. Sisodia was grilled for over eight hours before being arrested, with sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation justifying the need for custodial interrogation, saying the Delhi minister’s answers were not satisfactory and that he was not cooperating. The arrest has come as a big blow to the AAP government in Delhi, given Sisodia’s stature in the state Cabinet. Sisodia holds 18 portfolios, including Finance, Planning, Land and Building, Vigilance, Services, Tourism, Labour, Employment, Public Works Department, Health, Indus- Plenary ends Cong vows to fight crony capitalism, forge alliances Tribune News Service Raipur, February 26 The Congress’ 85th plenary session ended here today with the ‘Raipur Call to Action’, in which the party asserted it would fight to protect its political values against the “BJP’s authoritarian, communal and crony capitalist onslaught” and would forge alliances. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann >> in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. ANI Vidhan Sabha has to go to the Supreme Court to conduct the Budget session... We (AAP) know how to fight our battles and we cannot be intimidated by the ED or CBI,” he said. On Thursday, when the AAP government held its first Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit, the Governor sent a letter to the CM, saying he would decide whether to allow the Budget session on March 3, only after he had sought legal advice on the “extremely derogatory and patently constitutional tweets and letter” written by CM Mann in response to his letter sent earlier this month. continued on page 9 60 SEATS EACH 2 N-E STATES VOTE TODAY MEGHALAYA NAGALAND 60 Seats* 60 369 Candidates 183 21L Total voters 13L 3,419 Polling stations 2,291 119 Companies deployed 305 COUNTING ON MARCH 2 HUGE SEIZURE IN MEGHALAYA ~33.24 cr drugs |~8.63 cr cash |Gold worth ~91 lakh |~2.54 cr liquor *POLLING ON 1 SEAT EACH ADJOURNED ABOUT THE EXCISE SCAM ■ CBI FIR states Sisodia & other public servants took decisions pertaining to 2021-2022 excise policy without approval of competent authority with the ‘intention to extend undue favours to licencees post tender” ■ According to the FIR, Sisodia’s ‘close associates’ were actively involved in diverting funds col- lected from liquor licencees for the accused in the case. This is work against the country and if that happens the entire Congress party will stand against it,” he said. The former party president also questioned External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recent remarks on the Chinese economy being big vis-a-vis India’s and said the minister’s remarks mirrored “cowardice, not nationalism, and were in line with VD Savarkar’s policy of bowing before the strong”. Hammering the Adani issue, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the group, which also had interests in defencerelated industry, operated various shell companies and sent “thousands of crores to India” through these. “Why is an investigation not being carried out on this?” Rahul Gandhi asked, saying it’s a matter related to the national security.
