Amritsar, March 13 The Chatiwind police have booked five persons on charges of murder and destruction of evidence after a youth allegedly died of drug overdose and later his body was found dumped in Jandiala area on Saturday. Subeg Singh, father of the deceased Tarlochan Singh (30), told the police that Tarlochan was hooked to drugs. He said on Friday, his son had gone to the house of Jugraj Singh of Rakh Jhite village and did not return home. He said they looked for him but failed to fine him. Hospital. Amritsar, March 13 Resentment brew among members of the Sri Guru Ram Das (SGRD) Medical College management and students after the suicide of a woman student Pamposh in the college hostel four days ago and the reported arrest of another student in connection with the case. Condemning the ‘onesided action’ of the police, they demanded an impartial investigation by a senior IPS officer or a judicial probe into the incident. The college management accused the police of taking action in haste and under pressure from different organisations. “The police should act after verifying the facts. The complainant, Malkit Singh of Badsar under the Dhanaula police station in Sangrur district, lodged a complaint with the Sadar police (Tarn Taran), that accused Manjinder Singh lured him on the pretext of sending him to Europe and took Rs 16 lakh, but after taking the money he started misbehaving with him and even did not send him abroad. Malkit Singh along with his car driver was on way back home when Manjinder Singh, his relative Kuldeep Singh Sahura (Amritsar) and four other unidentified armed persons chased him and fired at him. However, they managed to run away unhurt from the spot. Sub-Inspector Jaspal Singh of the Sadar police said the accused had been booked under Sections 307, 506, 148 and 149, IPC, and Sections 24, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. The police have been on high alert as high-profile dignitaries would be arriving in the city to take part in the summit. The summit is scheduled to be held in two phases — the Y-20 meeting from March 15 to 17 on education and L-20 meeting on March 19-20 on labour. Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police Dr Mehtab Singh and Prabhjot Singh Virk said the flag march was taken out in various subdivisions to ensure foolproof security. They said it would also inculcate a sense of security among the residents. Amritsar, March 13 Aam Aadmi Party activists staged a protest and submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner against demolishing the wall of a temple near Shivala. AAP activist Ankur Gupta said the Municipal Town Planning (MTP) wing of the MC had demolished the wall of Radha Krishna Temple on December 31, 2022 without any prior notice. Now, the building inspectors of the MC are again pressing the priest residing in the temple. Gupta claimed that the family of the priest had been residing there for several years and the MTP wing of the MC had been violating rules. “Without a notice or court order, demolishing the wall of the temple is an act of blasphemy. Today, we staged a protest and also submitted a memorandum to the MC Commissioner,” Gupta. The MC Commissioner assured the demonstrators to review the issue. TRIBUNE PHOTO G20 cleanup: MC removes encroachments on GT Road Amritsar, March 13 Two days before the start of the G20 summit in the city, the estate wing of the Municipal Corporation demolished illegal encroachments on GT Road. A team of the wing demolished illegal structures outside shops and houses near Khalsa Collage and Putaligarh area. The MC had initiated a demolition drive on GT Road and other areas where international delegates would visit. Sever- al roads had been encroached by the residents and traders permanently. Meanwhile, the estate wing got the possession of two-acre agricultural land at a nearby dairy complex on Jhabbal Road. On June 18, 2021, the MC had removed an encroachment from the same land and installed its ownership board. A barbed wire was also installed to avoid further encroachment. But the place was occupied by some locals again. MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi received a complaint in this regard. On the directions of MC Commissioner Estate Officer Dharminder Jeet Singh along with his team, horticulture wing officers and cops from Islamabad police station reached the spot.
