This has given me a sense of confidence,” said Shanta Rani (88), a resident of Avtar Nagar who has been bedridden for more than a year now. She cast her vote on the ballot paper on Thursday when electoral commission staff visited her home and she exercised her right. The octogenarian said despite her condition, she still had a right and this was very empowering. Committee secretary Manjit Singh said this year's purchase was more than target despite bad weather adding that purchasing agencies were expecting some more quintals purchase. He said that 20,851 quintals of purchased wheat had been lifted and 2,07,844 quintals remain unlifted, and farmers have been paid till April 30. OC Tribune News Service Jalandhar, May 5 A day after two youths from Sultanpur Lodhi died after they were shot in the US by their own associates, another youngster from Kapurthala has been killed in the US by shoplifters. Navjot Singh (30) hailing from Jalal Bhulana village in Kapurthala was gunned down by robbers at a petrol station where he was working for the past one year. On May 4, armed robbers came to the store and sought money from him, which he provided. However, they still shot him and he died on the spot. Jalandhar, May 5 Ahead of the Jalandhar Lok Sabha byelection, hundreds of protesters under the banner Theka Mulazim Sangharsh Morcha, Punjab, today gathered outside Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall and protested against the government. They have also printed several pamphlets appealing voters to stop trusting political parties. The three-page pamphlet that addresses people of the district describes in detail the anti-people policies of the political parties. The pamphlet reads that people had trusted AAP but it broke the trust too. They raised slogans against the government in demand of regularisation. The members are working on outsource in various departments and have been SANDEEP NANGAL AMBIYAN MURDER Key witness demands arrest of 2 other accused Jalandhar, May5 A day after the arrest of Surjan Singh Chatha, key accused in the murder of kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambiyan, the Major League Kabaddi Association chairman and key witness in the case, Hakam Singh, today demanded that the two other accused named in the case also be arrested. Hakam Singh was addressing the media along with Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambiyan’s brother Angrez Singh at the Press Club in Jalandhar today. Speaking to mediapersons, the duo said action against the two other accused also be initiated. The duo’s demand related to Sukhwinder Mann, president, World Kabaddi Doping Committee; and Sarabjit Singh Sabbha Thiara, the owner of Royal Kings Kabaddi Club, US, who were also named in the case along with Chatha. Addressing the press, Hakam Singh said, “We had been exhorting the police regarding the arrest of Surjan Singh Chatha for a long time, sharing his location also when he was in the city. Due to dis- crepancies in England, he couldn’t go there. So, he was in India. We had also met leaders and police officers demanding his arrest. Finally, his arrest yesterday has come as a huge relief. We also demand that action be taken against Sarabjit Singh Sabbha Thiara and Sukhwinder Mann, from Canada. Red corner notices should be issued and they should be brought back to India so that the case may reach a proper conclusion.” The duo also alleged that before the arrest of Chatha, threat calls had been made to them from unknown numbers which were not from India, to keep mum over the case. Thakur is the first Union Sports Minister to visit the Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium in the past six decades.
