TNS THIEF NABBED, 10 CYCLES RECOVERED Chandigarh: The police have arrested a bicycle thief and recovered 10 expensive bicycles from his possession. The suspect, identified as Neem Kanta, a resident of Khuda Ali Sher village, had recently stolen two bicycles from Sector 17. The police said a total of 10 bicycles worth about Rs 3 lakh had been recovered from him. Airport agency flags security breach during CM’s flight Tribune News Service Mohali, August 21 Bird Aviation Services has complained to the airport authority about a major security breach at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh, on August 18 when Mohali SSP Sandeep Garg, along with three persons, drove the aviation services vehicle to the apron area as the Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, was scheduled to depart by a chartered plane for New Delhi around 1:30 pm. Nod to single firm for temporary composting plant at Dadu Majra Sandeep Rana Tribune News Service Chandigarh, August 21 The Municipal Corporation (MC) has okayed the only firm, which filed a bid for the tender for setting up a temporary composting plant to process fresh wet west at Dadu Majra. The agency’s financial bid will be opened on Tuesday. “If it is according to the estimates prepared by us in the tender floated earlier, then the work will be allotted to the firm,” said an MC official concerned. The MC is operating a wet waste plant at Sector 25 after upgrade and extensions, but can process only up to 200 metric tonne (MT) of waste per day. In contrast, the daily generation of fresh wet waste in the city is 374 MT per day. A formal letter has been sent to the Principal Conservator of Forests in Haryana, requesting comprehensive details about the land being proposed in exchange for the land designated for a new Haryana Assembly building at the IT Park in the city. Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh stated that they had sought a clarification from the Haryana Government on the eco-sensitive zone issue of the land. “Now, we are waiting for a reply from the state government,” he said. An official of the Haryana Government stated that they were working on obtaining environmental clearance for the land. However, UT Adviser Dharam Pal said they would not accept the land offered by Haryana if it fell within the eco-sensitive zone of the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary, as it would be of no use for them. At a recent meeting, officials of the Haryana Government had submitted a demarcation report and a non-encumbrance certificate, affirming that the offered land is entirely free of encumbrances and physical structures.
