PUNJABI MAGIC Twilight zone Alison Brie, Dave Franco to feature in horror film Together Hollywood actor-couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie are set to star together in an upcoming horror film. Titled Together, the movie will be directed by debutant writer-director Michael Shanks. Though the details of the plot have been kept under wraps, the movie is based around co-dependency and will be told in a unique way. Franco and Brie, who tied the knot in 2017, most recently collaborated for romantic comedy Somebody I Used to Know, which was released in 2023. The duo also starred together in The Little Hours and The Disaster Artist in 2017, as well as The Rental (2020), which marked Franco’s directorial debut. They will also produce Together along with Picturestart, Tango, 1.21 and Princess Pictures. Franco recently starred alongside Kristen Stewart in studio A24’s Love Lies Bleeding, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Esha Deol, Bharat Takhtani announce their separation Actress Esha Deol and entrepreneur Bharat Takhtani on Wednesday confirmed their separation after 11 years of marriage. Rumours of their split were doing the rounds on social media for quite some time now. Esha and Bharat, who share daughters Radhya and Miraya together, said the separation was ‘mutual and amicable’. “We have mutually and amicably decided to part ways. Through this shift in our lives, the best interests and welfare of our two children is and will be of utmost importance to us. We would appreciate that our privacy is respected throughout,” the duo said in a joint statement. After performing at Coachella Music Festival, there was no stopping Diljit as news of him collaborating with American music producer Diplo started doing the rounds. While Diljit shared a picture of him with Diplo, the latter posted a video with the caption, ‘From Coachella to my studio’. Diljit has previously worked with Colombian singer Camilo to create the song, Palpita. The single has verses by Camilo in Spanish, whereas Diljit does what he knows best — croon in Punjabi! Last year, Karan Aujla collaborated with Grammy-winning DJ Tiësto for the song Softly (Tiësto remix). The song gained global recognition and was premiered at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix’s after-race concert. While Softly has over 116 million views, its remix by Tiësto has amassed over 3.9 million views, and was dropped around mid-December 2023. One of his top songs, Maan Meri Jaan got a Western twist when American singer Nick Jonas collaborated for the reprised version, titled Maan Meri Jaan (Afterlife). For the first time, fans of Nick Jonas witnessed the Indian jiju, thanks to his marriage to Indian-American actress Priyanka Chopra, croon in Hindi. The captivating lyrics and rhythm made it a global hit. Priyanka has also tried her hand at singing with TIËSTO renowned Western musicians like Will.i.am and Pitbull. FUSION OF SORTS Bollywood playback singer Armaan Malik and Shape of You hit-maker Ed Sheeran collaborated a few years ago for the song, 2step. Released in June 2022, the song helped the KING KARAN AUJLA Indian singer garner a better global presence. The track, 2step, was originally part of Sheeran’s 2021 album Equal. But it wasn’t Armaan’s first international collaboration, he had previously worked with American music producer, KSHMR, for the song Echo. Speaking of KSHMR, the artiste has also worked with another Indian artiste, Divine, whose popularity can be judged from the fact that international rap artiste Nas has signed him under his label. BEYOND BORDERS Pasoori-fame singer Ali Sethi announced in the first week of January 2024 that he was collaborating with Indian singer Jonita Gandhi. Musk had banned him from Twitter (now called X) and accused the student of posting ‘assassination coordinates’. Now, an attorney for Swift has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Sweeney, a University of Central Florida junior. The letter alleged that Sweeney’s social media accounts cause ‘direct and irreparable harm, as well as emotional and physical distress’. Unless Sweeney stops the ‘stalking and harassing behaviour’, Swift would ‘have no choice but to pursue Music composer-singer Shankar Mahadevan on his Grammy win... Music composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan has expressed his gratitude with a heartfelt note, after his and Zakir Hussain’s band Shakti won the Best Global Music Album award at the Grammys 2024. He said that this was the moment due to which he could claim that dreams do indeed come true. Mahadevan took to Instagram and shared a string of pictures from Grammy 2024. Alongside a picture where he can be seen posing with a golden gramophone, he wrote: “We did it. I never imagined that a band from where I have learnt my music and my musical aesthetics would be the band with whom I would eventually perform and win a Grammy. This is the moment from which I can easily say that dreams do come true. Shakti was a dream which came true! Thank you Almighty for making this happen! The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
