Police bust racket using dronestosmuggledrugs Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 12 The Jalandhar Police Commissionerate has busted an international drug smuggling racket that used drones to transport heroin from Pakistan. The operation, led by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, led to the arrest of one individual and the recovery of 1 kilogram of heroin and Rs 4 lakh in drug money. Acting on a tip-off, a police team set up a trap near Green Park Colony, close to the bus stand here. Officials noticed a man approaching from Cool Road, carrying a bag. When he saw the police, he attempted to flee, creating suspicion. The police quickly detained the man, identified as Shinda Singh alias Kala, a resident of Chak Bhangewala village in Ferozepur district. During a search, police discovered 1 kilogram of heroin and Rs 4 lakh in cash from his possession. An FIR was registered under Section 21-C, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against him at Division Number 6 police station. Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma stated that investigation is going on to identify Shinda Singh’s accomplices and the individuals to whom the heroin was being supplied. He said they were also probing how the accused used drones to smuggle heroin across the border from Pakistan. Shinda Singh is already facing charges in a separate case under the NDPS Act in Ferozepur district. “This arrest marks a critical victory for police in curbing the growing menace of cross-border drug smuggling in the region,” the CP added. He alleged that the JIT had faced a huge monetary loss because of this allotment as it was a trust property. The second FIR that the JIT has got lodged pertains to the palatial house in New Jawahar Nagar in which Rajwant Kaur has been made accused along with two clerks Mukhtiar Singh and Pawan Kumar. Sanghera has alleged that the property belonged to three brothers Gurmeet Singh, Amrik Singh and Jagmohan Singh (now deceased) since 1982. The JIT Chair- man has said the matter pertaining to the fraud in this case also came to his knowledge when he received summons from the court. On perusal of the records, he found that former JIT Chairman Baljit S Neelamahal (now deceased) and clerk Mukhtiar Singh had got the property registered in the name of Jagmohan’s wife Rajwant Kaur in May 2011, even as they were reportedly owner of just onethird of the property and had no legal right to claim the entire property. He said this file too was found incomplete as several documents in it were found missing. Sanghera further said clerk Mukhtiar Singh had retired since then and now clerk Pawan Kumar was handling the case, but he too could not give any convincing reply on the incomplete file, missing documents and its alleged tampering. He said after doing an internal inquiry, he had got the FIR lodged against those involved in both cases. The Navi Baradari police teams have lodged the case and started inquiry into the alleged fraud cases.
