A case has been registered at the Sadar police station against driver of the car. According to information, Mukesh Chand, a resident of Kataru Chakk village, told the police that he was returning to his village in a car with his daughter Tripta Kumari (47) from a condolence meeting in Sarkaghat, Himachal Pradesh. The complainant alleged that car driver Balveer Singh was driving the vehicle at high speed and recklessly. He said when they reached near Chak Sadhu village, the driver lost control over the car and it overturned and rolled over into a ditch. The complainant said his daughter died on the spot. Surinder Kaur, a resident of Mianwal Araian village, complained to the police that she was sitting in a street on August 18 when three bikeborne persons snatched her earrings. OC Residents furious as MC ignores heaps of garbage in key areas, seek NGT intervention Avneet Kaur Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 14 Heaps of garbage have left unattended in some of Phagwara’s most frequented areas are causing frustration among residents. Key locations, such as the front of the shopping complex on GT Road and near the defunct sewage treatment plant (STP) in Urban Estate, have become dumping grounds for waste. Residents say though these prominent spots witness heavy flow of traffic every day, the municipal corporation (MC) authorities have taken no action to address the growing health and environmental risks posed by garbage piled up here. They said the Urban Estate Residents Welfare Association had made numerous complaints to the Phagwara Municipal Corporation (MC), but their pleas had been ignored. The association, after exhausting all local options, has now appealed to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), and sought its intervention to Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested a man on the charge of assaulting a villager. Investigating officer (IO) Omesh Kumar said the suspect was identified as Balkar Singh, a resident of Shampur village falling under the Bilga police station. Gurwinder Singh, a resident of Umarpur Kalan village, complained to the police that the suspect assaulted him on September 5 at the Nurmahal taxi stand causing injuries on his mouth and left eye. The IO said a case under Section 117(2) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the BNS was registered against the suspect. OC SIX BOOKED FOR THRASHING COUPLE Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have booked six persons, including a woman, on the charge of assaulting a couple. Investigating officer (IO) Harjit Singh said the suspects were identified as Ranni and Kaku of Thablke village, Babu and his sons Sharif and Mango of Samrai village and Nurdeen of Samrai village. Shaukat Ali of Thablke village complained to the police that he along with his wife Asha was grazing their cattle in village fields on August 23 when the suspects attacked them with weapons leaving them injured. The IO said a case under relevant sections of the BNS was registered against six suspects in this regard. OC compel the MC authorities to remove garbage dumped at key locations. Residents said garbage tarnished image of the city, Victims chase suspects, get 2 arrested Jalandhar, September 14 Incidents of looting are being reported daily from several areas of the city. One such incident was reported from Beas village in the Bhogpur area where looters waylaid a truck and took away Rs 50,000 cash and a cellphone from its driver. The incident occurred yesterday evening wherein three bike-borne looters assaulted the driver and cleaner of the truck. Despite receiving injuries on their heads, the victims chased the assailants with the help of a dhaba owner and managed to alert the Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF) teams. It helped the SSF teams’ arrest two of the three suspects. The driver identified as Raj Kumar was reportedly driving an empty truck on the road heading from Kathua to Jalandhar when the incident happened. Kumar said he had stopped the truck at a dhaba to have dinner when the assailants jumped into the vehicle from both sides and took away all the cash and the mobile phone that he was carrying. “Since we resis- ted, the assailants hit me and my cleaner on our heads with a sharp weapon leaving us injured,” Kumar said. Kumar said the owner of a dhaba at Beas village came to their rescue. “He made us sit in his car and chased the looters. We spotted them near a filling station. We quickly managed to nab one of the suspects, who had got off his bike, while the other two managed to flee. We handed him over to the police and returned to dhaba to have dinner. Almost an hour later, we again spotted two looters passing on a bike near the dhaba. We again chased them. In a jiffy, they left the bike in sugarcane fields and ran away. The police teams arrived on the spot. The police impounded the bike and managed to arrest another suspect,” Kumar said. Truck driver, cleaner waylaid, robbed of ~50k Jalandhar, September 14 As part of the ongoing drive against traffic violations, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police intensified its efforts with the launch of a special campaign led by Harjinder Singh, ACP Model Town, on , Friday evening. The drive was held from 5 pm to 9 pm during which the police checked vehicles at Manbro Chowk and Chunmun Mall. The drive, conducted by the SHO, police station Division No. 6, in collaboration with the Emergency Response System (ERS) team, aimed to crackdown on motorists breaking traffic rules. Special checkpoints were set up to ensure immediate action against violators. During the drive, 100 vehicles were inspected. Fifteen vehicle owners were challaned for various infractions, including illegal black films on four-wheelers, missing registration number plates, riding without helmets, jumping red light and driving Bullet motorcycle with modified silencers causing noise pollution. “This continuous effort underscores the Commissionerate Police’s dedication to ensure road safety and enforcing traffic laws across the city,” the Model Town ACP said, while adding that such drives would continue in the coming days too. Phagwara, September 14 Owners of chemist shops in the city pulled down shutters of their stores to protest over a looting incident at Sethi Medical Shops located in Hargobind Nagar, a congested locality, in the evening here today. After receiving information, Jaspreet Singh, DSP Phag, wara, along with Inspector Aman Kumar rushed to the spot. As per reports, two unidentified youths came to the shop and took away all the money kept in the cash box in the presence of shop owner Paramjit Kaur around 4 pm today.
