The hearing is scheduled on November 29. Though the decision has been taken to shift the carcass plant, now, the administration and the MC authorities are waiting for the nod from the government. The decision cannot be taken at the local level and it needs a green signal from the government before the beginning of the shifting work. According to MC officials, it has been decided to shift the carcass plant near the Tajpur Road dump site and the estimated cost to be incurred in the shifting will be around Rs 3.5 crore. It is the third such plant in the country after Delhi and Jodhpur. INDERJEET VERMA DECISION TAKEN IN RECENT MEETING According to MC officials, in a recent meeting it has been decided to shift the carcass plant near the Tajpur Road dump site and the estimated cost to be incurred in the shifting will be around ~3.5 crore. are facing opposition from nearby villagers fearing health hazards and foul smell. The plant was supposed to be inaugurated in July 2021 but it faced stiff opposition. The authorities again tried to make it operational in December 2022 but were unsuccessful. Yet another attempt was made in July 2023 but that too failed. On January 15 this year, the MC, with the support of administration officials and the police, managed to make the plant operational for 10 days before facing opposition from the villagers. MP Ravneet Bittu also supported the protesting villagers and locked the plant, leading to the registration of an FIR against him. “The plant is located close to our homes and life of the people staying here will become hell if it becomes operational. Besides foul smell, the threat of groundwater pollution and disease outbreak looms large over us,” said one of the protesting villagers. MC officials held a meeting with the officials from the district administration recently in this regard and on Thursday, Local Bodies Minister Ravjot Singh also met villagers in this context. Dr Ravjot heared the grievances of the villagers and assured them that the decision regarding the functioning of the modern and scientific carcass utilisation plant would be taken amicably. ASI targeted by cyber crooks, loses ~4.65L Civic body chief reviews devp works Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 22 In the kidnapping case of a Gujarat-based trader, Surjit Dinkar Patel, from the Janakpuri market here, the Ludhiana police have registered a case against the business partner of the victim. The suspect has been identified as Rajinder Bai, also a native of Gujarat. Notably, on Thursday night, the trader was kidnapped from Ahluwalia Complex, Janakpuri market, by around five persons. They had bundled the victim into a i20 car, bearing a Ludhiana registration number, and fled the scene. The police were on Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 22 Cyber criminals hacked the mobile phone of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Jasbir Singh, posted at the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP)-1, and transferred Rs 4,65,530 from his three bank accounts. ASI Jasbir Singh said the suspects hacked his mobile and transferred the money from his Punjab National Bank accounts through various transactions. The cyber crime cell of the Ludhiana police has registered a case against the unidentified miscreants based on the victim’s complaint. The ASI said during investigation, it was found that the suspects were from Kolkata. The police were investigating the matter and would arrest them soon. “When I was using an online app to pay some instalment, the OTP was sent to someone else’s number. He called the number several times but no one answered the calls. Later, it was discovered that money had been transferred from his OD limit account to an account in Odisha. The money was then transferred from the Odisha account to a bank account in Kolkata. The cyber thief withdrew the money from Kolkata,” the complainant said. According to sources, the cyber thief entered a police officers’ group and hacked mobile phones of some police personnel, including Jasbir Singh, through the Kisan app. The other police personnel got their mobile phones frozen, but the ASI delayed the same and lost the money. Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 22 Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal conducted a review meeting on Thursday to expedite works and for ensuring cleanliness across the city. Senior officials of the B&R wing and O&M cell participated in the meeting and necessary directions were issued to get pending works completed at the earliest. The MC Commissioner said besides expediting the ongoing works, officials had also been directed to complete the tender process of works which had been approved in the past at the earliest, so that those projects could be completed to facilitate residents at large. He said directions had again been issued to staff to ensure cleanliness and regular cleaning of sewer lines across the city. The officials had been directed to ensure speedy redressal of grievances shared by residents. — TNS Ludhiana, November 22 Five car-borne youths misbehaved with traffic police personnel when the latter stopped their at a naka for not wearing a seat belt while driving the car. The youngsters parked their car in the middle of the road and misbehaved with the policemen. The police also videographed the incident. The Sadar police registered a case against five persons. One of them was identified as Jatinder Gorian. City traffic zone in-charge Kuldeep Singh said Jatinder was coming in a car with four persons from the Pakhowal Chowk side. He was not wearing a seat belt while driving the vehicle. The traffic police personnel signalled to stop the car. He parked the car in the mid- dle of the road and obstructed the work of the police officials deployed on duty. When the latter videographed the incident and asked him to leave, Jatinder, along with his companions, misbehaved with the policemen. In the video of the incident, which also surfaced on social media, Jatinder and his companions were seen having heated arguments with traffic policemen. The friends of Jatinder told mediapersons that traffic police stopped their car on the road and they did not misbehave with the officials. After the altercation, the PCR squad also reached the spot. Foreign student’s purse stolen Ludhiana, November 22 The purse of a foreign student studying at Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, was stolen by some unidentified miscreants. The incident occurred when 27-year-old Niyunkepedia Feona from Liberia was shopping with her friend at Gurh Mandi here on Wednesday. Feona reported the incident to the Kotwali police, stating that her bag’s zip was found open when she boarded a bus to Jalandhar. Upon checking, she found her purse missing, which contained her passport and Rs 2,800 in cash. The police registered a case against unidentified thieves and started a probe into the matter. Even CCTV footage from the area were also being checked to get any clue about the miscreants. — TNS Nine arrested with 430 gm of heroin Ludhiana, November 22 The crime wing of the Ludhiana police claimed to have arrested nine persons and seized 430 gm of heroin from their possession in separate incidents. ADCP (Crime) Amandeep Singh Brar in a statement issued stated that on November 20, a police team arrested Abhishek Thapar, Gopi, alias Sunny, and Shubham Bains, residents of Ambedkar Colony, and seized 165 gm of heroin from their possession. On the same day, another police team arrested Badal Rana, Chand and Reena, all residents of the colony, and seized 160 gm of heroin from their possession. Brar said in another inci- dent, the police nabbed Rahul, Lucky and Neetu, who were also residents of the colony, and seized 105 gm of heroin from their possession. “The suspects have been indulging in a drug business for a long time. Now, their questioning is on to inquire about other big smugglers and they would also be nabbed in coming days. Even properties amassed by them with the help of drug money would also be verified and the same would be attached in the cases,” the ADCP said. — TNS Traffic police collect ~7.68 crore through challans this year, riding without helmet tops the chart Nikhil Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 22 The Ludhiana traffic police have added over Rs 7.68 crore to the exchequer of the state government by issuing over 1.43 lakh challans concerning various offences this year. Interestingly, the offence which rules the roost on the traffic violation list is riding without helmet in the industrial hub. It is closely followed by wrong parking. Details of traffic challans and penalties levied by the traffic police till November 19 this year revealed that city residents committed maximum violations of driving without helmet and the traffic police issued around 27,143 against the same, followed by 25,209 challans issued against wrong parking. Special attention would be paid on underage driving, drunken driving and dangerous driving. Traffic police were not having the only motive to issue challans, instead, road safety is our topmost priority and the traffic police would do anything to enforce it. The ACP urged residents to co-operate with the traffic police and follow rules on roads for ensuring safety of others and themselves.
