The situation turns grim during VIP or VVIP movements in the holy city. The number of cops had also dwindled in the recent past. At present, there are around 350 cops to maintain traffic. Last year, the number was 600. “Instead of regulating the traffic, the traffic cops concentrate on completing the target of issuing challans,” said Pritam Singh, a local resident. The traffic lights have been defunct at Raiway Station Chowk, Putlighar Chowk, Ranit Ka Bagh Chowk at various other major points for past couple of months. Prof Shalini Behal, Professor, in-charge (examinations) said the exams have been rescheduled due to the conduct of the Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET), which is to be conducted on December 1. To be held on December 28 “Since, many of our students will be taking this exam, we thought it would only be beneficial to re-schedule the theory exams for December 1. These exams will now be held on December 28 (Saturday) instead of December 1 as per the earlier scheduled time and exam centers. Available on Android, iOS and Windows smartphones, a large number of ticket seekers are still not aware about the working of the app. Arrangement by the Railways for providing current tickets at its counters in the waiting hall and through automatic ticket vending machines (ATVM) would never be adequate as ticket seekers come in large numbers, said railway employees. They stated that their numbers swell between 5 Passengers make a beeline to book tickets at the railway station in Amritsar on Saturday.
