The FIR follows a detailed report filed by the police after reviewing the incident. The case has been registered under Sections 221, 223, 191(2), 190, 115(2), 121(1) and 132 of the BNS after investigators confirmed that a large group had attempted to storm Gate No. 1 of the university in violation of the prohibitory orders. Police officials said the identification of the accused was under way through CCTV footage, videos and photographs, and that notices as well as arrests were expected shortly. The officials said the presence of media personnel and photographers during the commotion appeared to have emboldened some members of the crowd, further aggravating the situation. The gathering was subsequently declared an unlawful assembly. The police stated that maintaining law and order within the university campuses remained a priority, and action would be taken against those identified through the ongoing video analysis. On November 10, the police had faced a massive challenge as violent clashes broke out near the Panjab University gates, where hundreds of leaders and activists had gathered to support the student protest over the delay in Senate elections. As students pushed through, three to four policemen sustained injuries, while a stampede-like situation erupted at the gates. Suspecting foul play, the victim's family have demanded an investigation. However, police officials said in the initial investigation, it appeared to be an accident but they were probing the matter. The police said Harpreet and his brother Anil had gone to a liquor vend where their friend Saahil joined them. They had an argument after which Harpreet and his brother Anil left the place on foot. Meanwhile, Saahil followed them in his car. When they reached near the old bus stand, Harpreet was reportedly hit by Saahil's car. Passersby took the victim to the hospital where he was declared dead. Zirakpur SHO Satinder Singh said an accident case had been registered. Woman crushed under bus wheels in Zirakpur Tribune News Service Zirakpur, November 16 An unidentified middleaged woman was crushed to death under the wheels of a public transport bus near the Patiala chowk here this afternoon. Local resident said the woman was crossing the road when she was run over by the bus. The driver of the government undertaking bus reportedly sped off after the incident. The victim died on the spot even as passersby called the police. Residents said the police did not arrive at the spot even 30 minutes after being informed about the accident. The accident led to a heavy traffic jam at the spot. The identity of the victim could not be established when the reports last came in. Meanwhile, a police team reached the spot and shifted the body to the mortuary of the Dera Bassi subdivisional hospital. A case of hit-and-run has been registered at the Zirakpur police station. Officials said they were scanning the CCTV footage of the area to identify the vehicle.
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
