The deceased has been identified as Daljit Singh, alias Bao (42). He was standing at the gate of his shop when two masked robbers on a motorcycle arrived at the spot. The robbers demanded a narcotic drug (Coollip) from Daljit Singh. When he denied having such drug, the robbers forcibly took money out of his cash box (galla), leading to an argument between the shopkeeper and the robbers. Infuriated, the robbers opened fire at him. Three bullets hit Daljit Singh in the chest. Daljit’s wife Sarabjit Kaur, son Simranjit Singh and father Khajan Singh were also a few feet away in the shop. Daljit Singh was immediately taken to a private hospital here where the doctors declared him dead. On being alerted about incident, a police party, led by Inspector Ranjit Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Sadar police station, immediately reached the spot. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba released the photos collected from the footage of nearby CCTV cameras soon after the incident and appealed to the general public to provide information about the robbers. The police have kept the body in the mortuary of the local Civil Hospital here. A case has been registered by the Sadar police on the statement of Sarabjit Kaur, wife of the deceased. Tribune News Service Amritsar, December 1 The Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of Punjab Police has busted a cross border narcotics smuggling module and arrested one of its operative with 5 kg of heroin during an operation near the Indo-Pak border. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the arrested accused has been identified as Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Bhindi Aulakh Kalan in Amritsar (Rural). The police have also seized his bike allegedly being used to transport heroin consignments. According to the DGP ini, tial investigations indicate that Kuldeep Singh was working under the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler, Awan, who has been sending narcotics into India using drones. He was identified as Lovepreet Singh. He was brought to Amritsar and would be produced in a court tomorrow. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has confirmed his arrest while adding that till now, the police have arrested a total of five persons, including Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Kotla Khurd village here, in the case. Besides Lovepreet Singh, Dharamvir Singh, Karamvir Singh, Bikramjit Singh and Jaani have already been arrested. They were arrested on different dates recently. Victim Makhan Singh. FILE PHOTO Makhan Singh was gunned down at ISBT on Nov 18 Makhan Singh was gunned down by armed assailants at the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in broad daylight here on November 18. Soon after the incident, notorious gangsters Donny Bal, Kaushal Chaudhary and Prabh Dassuwal had taken responsibility for the murder while claiming that the deceased was a close confi- dant of their rival and Category-A gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Initially, the police had claimed that the incident occurred following a heated dispute between employees of two private bus transport companies over picking up of passengers first. While the argument was on, one of the employees, in a fit of rage, pulled out a weapon and opened fire. The assailants fled immediately after the shooting, the police had told. During investigation and interrogation of the accused, we learnt that Lovepreet, who was allegedly the main conspirator, had escaped to Jamnagar in Gujarat. “We shared the information with the Gujarat police following which he has been arrested and brought to Amritsar,” said the Police Commissioner. He was working as a helper on daily wages there. The Jamnagar police searched a residential block in Meghpar and caught him.
