The family suspected that the body might be negligently handed over to some other family by hospital staff. They also alleged organ theft. Afterwards, the deceased’s family members sat on a protest inside the hospital. They said the woman’s body was handed over to someone else and the hospital was not disclosing to whom the same was given. The woman was admitted to the hospital a few days ago and she died during treatment. Since sons of the deceased had to come from abroad and the last rites had to be performed after their arrival, the body was kept in the mortuary. Cops conduct a probe at a private hospital in Sarabha Nagar in Ludhiana on Monday. ASHWANI DHIMAN Deceased’s husband Jaswant Singh, a resident of Guru Ram Das Nagar, Moga, told mediapersons that his wife, Jasvir Kaur (73), was suffering from liver disease. When her health deteriorated, he admitted her to a nearby hospital, from where she was referred to a private hospital in Ludhiana. “On December 10, my wife was admitted to Orison Super Specialty Hospital in Sarabha Nagar, here. After nine days of treatment at the hospital, Jasvir Kaur’s condition worsened and she died on December 19. Afterwards, we requested the hospital to keep the body at its mortuary as my sons are coming from abroad. After my sons Balbir and Jarnail reached the city from Canada, we came to collect the body on Monday. However, when the hospital handed over the body to us, we were shocked to see that it was not her body. The body was of another woman, Manju (72). The hospital handed over my wife’s body to some other people who also reportedly performed her last rites,” he said. “We suspect the hospital might have taken out vital organs from the body. Thorough investigation is needed in the matter and strict action should be taken against the institution,” she said. Meanwhile, the hospital doctor while talking to mediapersons said the management was investigating the matter. SHO, Sarabha Nagar, inspector Aditya Sharma, said the police initiated a probe and a case was registered against hospital staff and administration on the charges of theft, criminal breach of trust under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Shivani Bhakoo Tribune News Service Ludhiana, December 22 In the fatal accident occurred near the Verka booth on the Ferozepur road here on the intervening night of December 20 and 21 in which a 16year-old student, a resident of Omaxe on Pakhowal Road, lost her life, the Sarabha Nagar police have registered an FIR against the driver and the owner of the Maruti Baleno vehicle. The SHO, Sarabha Nagar, Aditya Sharma, in an interaction with the media on Sunday said five minors were travelling in the car when It collided with a Toyota Innova. He confirmed that there were three girls and two boys, adding that further statements would be recorded once the children were in a position to talk. On Monday, the Sarabha Nagar police registered an FIR against the person who was driving the car and the owner of the vehicle. ADCP Rupinder Singh told The Tribune that since no parents were ready to provide statements in connection with the accident, the police, considering the gravity of the matter, registered an FIR against the driver. He said driver’s details would be ascertained once the children were able to give statements. All minors were students of a local reputed school. It is not an isolated case of underage driving. In another incident, which was reportedly not highlighted as the underage driver was the son of a policeman, a teenager lost his life. In the mishap, which occurred near Doraha on the night intervening November 11 and 12, a teenaged boy, a student of Nankana Sahib Public School, breathed his last. The vehicle was being driven by an underage driver and seven boys were travelling in it during the mishap. Talking to The Tribune, principal of Nankana Sahib Public School, Harmit Kaur Waraich, placed the responsibility squarely on parents who provide vehicles to their teenaged children. In many cases, she said, parents were not even aware that their children sneak out late at night. “The parents of the boy, who was killed in the accident, visited the school and appealed to students during the morning assembly not to drive vehicles till they are legally permitted to do so. The parents broke down and said they had already lost their only son and did not want any other parents to lose their children,” he said. Underage driving continues Despite stringent action against underage drivers, the practice continues unabated in the city. In the past almost one year, 299 challans were issued for underage driving by the Ludhiana police. Besides, 11,162 challans were issued to motorists without valid driving licences. A total of 4,353 challans were also issued against drunk drivers during the same period. ACP (traffic) Jatin Bansal said: “To prevent fatal mishaps, we are regularly holding thematic drives with special focus on life threatening violations such as overspeeding, underage driving and drunk driving. The police now registered a case of murder against the deceased’s husband. Deceased’s daughter Rinki in a statement to the police stated that his mother Guddi, aged around 34, had married thrice, and the third marriage was with a person named Manoj Kumar about four years ago. “My mother did not have any children with my stepfather Manoj Kumar, due Couple attacked each other with knives, suffered critical injuries to which they used to fight among themselves and the man even used to suspect character of his mother. Many a times, he had also threatened to kill her,” alleged deceased’s daughter. During the scuffle, the suspect also got injured as their mother also attacked him with a knife in self-defence, the complainant said, adding that as both of them had suffered serious injuries, they were admitted to the Civil Hospital for treatment. On Sunday during treatment, her mother succumbed to her injuries. The deceased’s daughter said the suspect was also undergoing treatment at a hospital as he had also suffered serious injuries in the fight. Malerkotla, December 22 The police claimed to have arrested four miscreants who had allegedly killed the driver of a truck by throwing him on the road after committing a robbery at Sangala village on the Malerkotla-Dhuri highway on Wednesday. Kingpin of the gang Gurpreet Singh Kala of Chananwal village in Barnala district was injured during a retaliatory firing by the police after the miscreant had fired at policemen with a weapon, which was recovered on his instance on Monday. Other arrested suspects included former sarpanch Buta Singh, Pardeep Singh of Chrik village in Moga, now a resident of Chananwal village in Barnala, and Pritpal Police officials address the media regarding the truck driver’s murder, in Malerkotla. Amrik had been working as a driver on a truck owned by Nirmal Singh of Phillaur town under Jalandhar for over six months. Initially, a blind murder and robbery case was solved with persistent, scientific and technical investigations conducted under the supervision of SSP Gagan Ajit Singh and all suspects were identified and later arrested from different places on Sunday evening. It was on Monday, that police personnel, led by Amargarh SHO Daljit Singh, were taking the kingpin Gurpreet Singh Kala, to a spot where he had concealed a weapon after committing the crime. When developers did not stop the illegal construction works despite receiving notices, a special team on Friday carried out the demolition drive, which went unopposed.
