He had gone missing on Monday after he went out for work. The police have registered a case and launched further probe though there has been no breakthrough in the case. According to the complaint filed by the victim's father, Rohit left home on Monday morning for work as per his daily routine but did not return in the evening. Repeated calls on his mobile phone went unanswered. Concerned family members contacted relatives and friends and searched for him through the night, but his whereabouts remained unknown. The situation took a grim turn yesterday when a local milk vendor informed the family that a body was lying along a roadside near a canal. The family rushed to the spot and identified the deceased. The complainant alleged that there were visible injury marks around Rohit's neck, Tribune News Service leading him to suspect foul play. He told the police that he believes his son was killed by unidentified persons and his body was dumped by the roadside. Police reached the scene soon after receiving information, secured the area and sent the body for postmortem examination. Officials said preliminary findings suggest suspicious circumstances, and a case has been registered on the basis of the father's statement. Investigators said they were examining call records, scanning CCTV footage in the surrounding areas and questioning local residents to trace Rohit's last movements. "The post-mortem of the body was being conducted today and the exact cause of death would be clear in the autopsy report," said Naresh Kumar, SHO, Jandiala police station. Police maintained that all angles, including personal enmity and robbery, are being probed. Amritsar, February 18 A youth allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Bhakna Kalan village, falling under the Gharinda police station area, reportedly after being upset over blackmail threats received from two individuals. Police have registered a case under Sections 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused, identified as Gurjant Singh alias Janta and Happy, both residents of the same village. According to a complaint filed by the victim's mother, the accused had allegedly been threatening her son, claiming they would circulate objectionable videos involving his sister if their demands were not met. She alleged that the accused were pressuring the victim over an inappropriate relationship demand with his sister working in a beauty parlour. In her statement, the com- BLACKMAIL THREAT plainant said the repeated threats caused severe mental harassment to the family. On February 16, the deceased was alone at home as his wife had gone to her parents' house and his sister was at work. Later in the evening, when family members returned, they found him hanging from a ceiling fan inside a room. Neighbours were alerted who gathered at the spot. The family brought his body down immediately, but he had already died. Police were informed, following which a preliminary investigation was initiated. Based on the complaint, police booked the two accused for alleged abetment of suicide and criminal intimidation. Raids are being conducted to arrest them, and further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the suicide. Lawyers block police vehicles at court complex Amritsar, February 18 High drama was witnessed at the District Court Complex on Wednesday after lawyers entered into heated arguments with two police personnel over alleged misconduct, prompting lawyers to block the entry of police vehicles into the premises. Members of the Amritsar Bar Association said that in the morning, two police personnel allegedly behaved inappropriately with lawyers during a dispute over parking vehicles inside the court complex. The lawyers claimed that congestion caused by vehicles from outside is a recurring problem and has also led to incidents of vehicle theft in the past. The standoff escalated during the day. As a result, police officers and the staff were forced to park their vehicles along the roadside and walk to the court premises, causing inconvenience to the public and traffic congestion outside.The situation intensified when prison escorts bringing undertrials reportedly had to return due to the blockade, worsening traffic conditions. ADCP Harpal Singh later held discussions with the protesting lawyers. Following this, entry for police vehicles was restored. The police personnel involved apologised to the lawyers, after which the protest was called off. — TNS E-Mulakat launched, to help jail inmates consult their counsel virtually Only dairies in main city areas to be shifted: Official Tribune News Service Amritsar, February 18 Dairy farmers of 'Dairy complex 65 Qila', situated in Fatahpur area, held a meeting here on Wednesday, with officials of the district administration and the Municipal Corporation. The 11-member delegation attended the meeting to put across the demands of dairy farmers. Vishal Wadhawan, Assistant Commissioner, MC, said they informed dairy farmers that all 356 dairies will not be shifted to the complex. He added that only those dairies, situated in the densely populated main areas of the city, will be shifted. He said the staff has been asked to separate the data of these dairies. He anticipated that the number of these dairies would be around 100 and they have 116 plots in the complex where they could be easily shifted. He said the rest of the dairies situated in the rural and semi-urban set-up will not be shifted. Wadhawan said the construction of a biogas plant will soon be initiated in the complex while a veterinary hospital will soon be operational. He added that the staff of the Animal Husbandry Department, who would be operating the hospital, were present in the meeting. Amritsar, February 18 In a significant step towards strengthening access to justice through technology, the E-Mulakat (Videoconferencing) facility was e-inaugurated at the Sessions Division, Amritsar, enabling jail inmates to consult their respective counsel virtually. A release issued here on Wednesday stated that the initiative was undertaken under the guidance of Justice Ashwini Kumar Mishra and Justice Rohit Kapoor, Administrative Judges, Sessions Division, Amritsar. The facility aims to ensure timely and effective legal assistance to inmates while reducing the logistical challenges associated with their physical production before courts. Addressing the gathering, Justice Rohit Kapoor described the facility as a progressive reform in the justice delivery system. He observed that virtual interaction between inmates and advocates would significantly reduce transportation expenses, security risks and the financial burden arising from the to-and-fro movement of inmates to courts for legal consultations. He further noted that the initiative would ease the administrative and operational burden on police and jail authorities, while ensuring uninterrupted legal representation and expeditious proceedings. Jatinder Kaur, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), while highlighting the initiative, said it reflects the judiciary's continued commitment to modernisation, efficient case management and secure access to justice. Amardeep Singh Bains, secretary, DLSA, Amritsar, stated that the E-Mulakat facility is expected to contribute to faster hearings, minimise avoidable delays and strengthen the overall justice delivery mechanism. Rajeev Kumar, Jail Superintendent, expressed support for the initiative and assured full cooperation from the jail administration in its effective implementation. He said that the facility would substantially reduce the operational strain on jail staff by limiting frequent inmate movements outside the prison premises.
