However, four-and-a-half years of the government have passed and not a single rupee has been given to employees by this government”, Beri said. IndiGo told to pay ~3.3L as When sprint star led a protest for flyer’s luggage goes missing better track in Jalandhar 6 yrs ago Rishika Kriti Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 1 The Jalandhar Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed IndiGo Airlines to pay nearly Rs 3.3 lakh to a city woman after her luggage went missing during an international trip to Istanbul and was never traced. The commission ordered IndiGo to pay Rs 2.99 lakh towards the value of the lost belongings, Rs 20,000 as compensation for mental harassment and Rs 10,000 towards litigation expenses. The complaint was filed by 29-year-old Simarjyot Kaur Kukreja, a resident of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar in Jalandhar. According to the complaint, she and her husband had planned a holiday trip to Istanbul in March 2024 and booked Indigo air tickets through a local travel agency. While boarding the DelhiIstanbul flight on March 10, the airline staff allegedly asked her to hand over her luggage due to lack of space in the aircraft cabin and assured her that it would be delivered at the Istanbul airport. However, after landing in Istanbul, the baggage did not arrive. The passenger immediately lodged a Property Irregularity Report at the airport and repeatedly contacted the airline through emails during and after her trip. Despite several follow-ups, the luggage could not be traced. The complainant told the commission that the missing suitcase contained personal belongings and other items worth over Rs 3 lakh, causing financial loss as well as mental distress. She also alleged that the loss of bag- gage ruined her holiday. During the proceedings, IndiGo admitted that the baggage was untraceable and offered compensation of $180 under its Conditions of Carriage. The complainant, however, rejected the offer, arguing that it was far below the actual value of the lost items. After examining the evidence, including baggage records, emails and purchase bills of the missing articles, the commission held the airline deficient in service. It observed that the complainant had proved that the luggage was handed over to the airline and subsequently went missing. Holding IndiGo responsible for the loss, the commission directed the airline to reimburse the value of the articles supported by bills along with compensation and litigation costs. c m y b Aakanksha N Bhardwaj Gurindervir completed 100 m race in 10.09 sec Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 1 As sprinter Gurindervir Singh dominates headlines after creating the national record in the 100m race, there is another chapter from his journey — one that highlights his wish for better sports infrastructure long before he became a national sensation. Nearly six years ago, while training at Government Arts and Sports College in Jalandhar, Gurindervir joined fellow athletes in protesting against the institution’s damaged 24year-old synthetic athletics track. Fresh from winning a silver medal at the South Asian (SAF) Games in Nepal, Gurindervir and other athletes had expressed disappointment through protest over the fact that they had to train on a track they said was unfit for competitive sports. Holding a placard that read “Sports City Without Track,” Gurindervir became one of the leading voices demanding improved facilities for athletes. The protest drew attention to the poor state of infrastructure despite the athletes’ international achievements. The campaign eventually yielded results, with the college receiving a new synthetic track after the protest a year later. Recalling those days, Sarabjit Singh Happy, Gurindervir’s former coach, who trained him for nearly a decade, said the young sprinter was committed to ensuring better facilities for future athletes. “Gurindervir had won a silver medal. He joined the protest because he believed athletes deserved proper infrastructure to reach their full potential,” said coach Happy. Gurindervir completed the 100 m race in 10.09 seconds and became a hero. Recently, he also shared his life story and experiences with PM Narendra Modi in the latest ‘Mann Ki Baat’ episode.
