RAVI KUMAR Wadhwa hatched plot to flee custody: Police Ramkrishan Upadhyay Tribune News Service Chandigarh, August 5 A local court has sent SubInspector Jagmehar Singh, ASI Surender, Karan Wadhwa and Kunal Wadhwa, sons of accused Vikram Wadhwa, to 14-day judicial custody. The police told the court that Wadhwa, along with his two sons, hatched a plot to flee custody. The police officers were induced with undue favour or reward to take Wadhwa to City Hotel, Sector 17-C, Chandigarh, from where he was planning to flee, said the police. Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the hotel and arrested Wadhwa’s sons and two police personnel. The bids will be opened on August 28. According to officials, the prospective bidders may inspect the residential units every Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. The process to submit earnest money was started on August 3 and will end on August 12 at 5 pm. The bidding for the auction will start at 9 am on August 14 and conclude at 4 pm on August 28. Nine residential units are located in Indira Colony, Manimajra, with a reserve price ranging from Rs 41.46 lakh to Rs 50.99 lakh. One category IV and another category I flat are located in Modern Housing Complex with reserve prices of Rs 1.05 crore and Rs 2.64 crore, respectively. FACEBOOK/CHANDIGARHTRIBUNE Over 2 lakh voters dropped from Chd draft rolls: Tewari Tribune News Service Chandigarh, August 5 Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari on Wednesday raised concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, claiming that nearly 2.1 lakh voters have been deleted from the city’s draft electoral rolls compared to the electorate for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Sharing a ward-wise Election Commission chart, Tewari said the number of electors in Chandigarh had declined from 6,59,805 at the time of the 2024 General Elections to 4,50,282 in the draft electoral rolls prepared as of August 2, 2026. The chart shows a net deletion of 2,09,523 voters (31.76%), while the average deletion across the 35 municipal wards stands at 33.72%. Calling the figures “very worrying”, Tewari said the scale of deletions in several wards was particularly alarming. Several other wards also registered deletions ranging between 30% and 40%. The Election Commission chart also includes an ASDD (absent, shifted, dead and duplicate) list of 66,145 electors. Tewari, who won the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat in June 2024, questioned the sharp decline in the number of electorate and expressed concern over the implications of such large-scale deletions. The draft electoral rolls are subject to the prescribed “claims and objections” process before publication of the final list.
