According to a complaint lodged by his father, Inder Pal, the boy left home around 6.30 pm on September 7 without informing the family and has not returned. The family reportedly searched for him among relatives and in nearby areas but failed to trace him. The police have registered a case. The family has expressed suspicion that the boy may have been confined by an unidentified person. OC HOUSE BURGLED IN NAKODAR Phagwara: An unidentified person allegedly entered the house of Iqbal Singh of Chak Mughlani village in Nakodar on the night of September 13 and allegedly stole gold jewellery and Rs 10,000. The accused allegedly entered the house, locked the doors and fled with the valuables. The police have registered a case. OC Jalandhar, September 14 A 24-year-old woman died after allegedly jumping from the 14th floor of a residential tower in Jalandhar on Monday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Jasmine Chahal, died on the spot. Jasmine was the daughter of Karamvir Singh, a Punjab Police SP posted in Faridkot. Her mother, Gurpreet Kaur, is a government school teacher. Jasmine had secured the second position nationally in the ICSE Class X examination in 2018 while studying at St Joseph’s Convent School, Jalandhar Cantonment. Friends said she had completed her postgraduation and was preparing for the UPSC examination. According to the police, Jasmine was living with her mother on the fifth floor of AGI Smart Homes. Earlier, a 14-yearold girl, Bhuvika, had entered the complex and allegedly jumped from the sixth floor. Last month, a 21-year-old college student, Mehakpreet, also died after allegedly jumping from the same complex. Jalandhar, September 14 Congress leaders on Monday staged a protest outside the Partap Bagh PSPCL office over long unscheduled power cuts being imposed in the city. During the protest, Congress leaders and workers raised slogans against the government and burnt an effigy of the Aam Aadmi Party government. Led by District Congress Committee president Rajinder Beri, the Congress leaders said the public had been in trouble due to irregular electricity supply and long unscheduled power cuts. They said despite repeatedly complaining to electricity department officials, no action was being taken for course correction. MLA Bawa Henry said the traders and business community was extremely troubled by these power cuts. “Businesses are being affected. The industry is suffering heavy losses”, he said. Arriving on three motorcycles, the attackers allegedly opened fire at the house before fleeing the spot. The incident triggered panic in the locality, though no casualties were reported. According to the complaint lodged by Priyanshu, the assailants allegedly reached his house, used abusive language and attempted to break the main entrance gate. They subsequently fired more than half a dozen rounds towards the house before escaping from the area on their motorcycles. Prabhdeep was among the players from Punjab selected for the Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team. Representing India at the Junior Asia Cup, the young star from Mithapur made a strong impact, scoring eight goals in the tournament. Along with Prabhdeep, three other players from Punjab Manmeet Singh Rai of Khusropur, Lavnur Singh of the PAP-Jalandhar and Gursewak Singh of the Round Glass Academy, Gur- daspur, were selected for the Indian junior men’s team. Punjab also had representation in the Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team and it won the Women’s Hockey Junior Asia Cup. Sukhvir Kaur of Bathinda was selected for the national junior women’s side. For Prabhdeep, however, the journey to the national team has not been without setbacks. His father, Rajinder Singh, who works in the private sector, said his son’s injury in 2025 was a particularly difficult period for the family. The injury kept Prabhdeep away from the game for nearly a year. “It was the most challenging time for me. I started to wonder if I would ever be able to return to hockey. That was the toughest time,” Prabhdeep recalled. Despite the setback, he remained determined to return to the field. He had started playing hockey at the age of eight, with his father taking him to the ground for practice. “I have grown up watching my seniors, former captain Manpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh. I want to become like them. My aim is also to win an Olympic medal for India,” he said. Now, with the Indian junior team preparing for the World Cup, Prabhdeep is focused on the next challenge. Jalandhar, September 14 The schedule announcement of the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2026 was made in the presence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today. Speaking about the IndiaPakistan fixture in the tournament, Nitin Kohli, president of Hockey Punjab, said the match would carry a special emotional significance for Punjabis on both sides of the border. “Charda Punjab and Lehnda Punjab will play against each other on November 1. For me and for Punjabis, this is a very emotional and special moment. To see India and Pakistan play hockey in Jalandhar, the heartland of hockey, will be a memorable occasion,” Kohli said. On Punjab hosting the championship, Kohli said, “The Asian Champions Trophy will begin on October 27 at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar. The tournament will feature India, Pakistan, Japan, Malaysia, China and Korea. The final will be played on November 5 at the Olympian Balbir Singh Hockey Stadium in Mohali.” On the matches being hosted in Jalandhar, Kohli said the city is deeply connected with the soul of Indian hockey. “The city has produced Olympians and international players for the country and also has a globally recognised identity in sports manufacturing. Hosting the Asian Champions Trophy in such a city is a tribute to Jalandhar’s rich hockey legacy,” he said.
