Pawan Sachdevaa to ‘recast’ Indian craftsmanship for a new generation at LFW Old roots, new silhouettes “RECAST is about taking something familiar and looking at it differently, respecting where it comes from while asking where it can go next,” says fashion designer Pawan Sachdevaa. He’s all set to unveil RECAST — Recasting the Familiar, Redefining the Modern Silhouette at Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI on October 17 at 6:30 pm. The collection explores the meeting point of Indian craftsmanship and contemporary tailoring, bringing the richness of traditional textiles into a wardrobe informed by denim, workwear, urban dressing and modern proportions. Instead of replicating familiar forms, RECAST distils their essence and gives them a distinctly contemporary expression. Bandhani, shibori, kasuti and kantha are reinterpreted through a modern, gender-fluid vocabulary. Kala cotton khadi, khadi silk, matka silk, Habutai silk, bouclé and denim create a dialogue between texture and structure, rawness and refinement. Structured jackets, relaxed tailoring, utility separates, coats, shirts and fluid trousers become canvases for handcrafted interventions and contemporary tex- tile treatments including acid wash, enzyme wash, stone wash and ombré dyeing. The colour story moves through indigo, ecru, black and mustard, drawing from the depth, warmth and organic character of Indian textiles and natural dyes. The result is a wardrobe that moves between luxury streetwear, modern workwear and formal dressing, without losing the identity of the craft at its core. For Sachdevaa, RECAST is less about looking back and more about translating forward. It brings together heritage and modernity, craft and construction, irregularity and precision. The collection proposes a new way of looking at familiar Indian elements. The ongoing Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI at New Delhi is on till October 18, and would see the participation of Manish Malhotra, Namrata Joshipura, Amit Aggarwal and more. — TNS PHOTO: PARDEEP TEWARI A journey across India’s artistic landscape, The India Story, curated by Guneesha Dhatt and Sona Sardana, brought the country’s rich craft heritage to life in Chandigarh. From the timeless elegance of Kashmiri shawls and the beauty of Andhra’s Kalamkari to Punjab’s vibrant Phulkari, Rajasthan’s Bandhani art, Bihar’s Madhubani paintings were in spotlight as the collection celebrat- ed the extraordinary diversity of India’s traditional arts. Each craft, rooted in its own region and history, offered a glimpse into the stories, skills and cultural legacies that continue to shape India’s diverse craft. Every product bore the hallmark of its geographical origin, passed down through generations of expertise, skill and a heritage that evolves with time. For Guneesha, The India Story is as much about recognising the people behind the craft as it is about celebrating India’s artistic heritage. “Curating is about bringing fashion and artisans’ talent to the forefront. Their hard work must be recognised, and we have tried to bring together the best possible representation of art forms of all kinds,” c m y b THANK YOU NOTE Arijit Singh has reacted to his song Phir Se from Dhurandhar: The Revenge entering the Grammy consideration process in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category. The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
