Shatrughan Sinha ‘BJP two-man army, Advani badly treated’ Tribune News Service New Delhi, March 23 Almost as if he expected to be fielded by the BJP despite a running feud with the current leadership represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah, actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, the Patna Sahib MP who was today replaced by Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad from the constituency for the upcoming polls, hit back, calling it “a twoman Army” and accusing them of not treating its veterans well. Sinha, in a series of tweets, said while he was capable of answering back on what has been done to him, the treatment meted out to veteran LK Advani, who has been dropped from Gandhinagar in favour of Shah, and other senior leaders such as Yashwant Sinha, Murli Manohar Joshi and Arun Shourie, “smacked of ingratitude”. appointed General Bipin Rawat as the Army Chief, overlooking the seniority of Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi, the then Eastern Army Commander. Service Chiefs are normally appointed two months in advance and the ongoing model code means the EC has to be kept in the loop for the appointment. continued on page 15 prasad from patna sahib page 18 continued on page 15 continued on page 15 Tribune News Service New Delhi, March 23 Vice Admiral Karambir Singh Nijjer from Jalandhar has been appointed the next Chief of the Indian Navy, replacing Admiral Sunil Lanba, who superannuates on May 31. The Ministry of Defence made the announcement this afternoon. Vice Admiral Karambir Singh will be the first naval helicopter pilot to head the force. Naval flying — fighter jets and helicopters — is a highly complex skill as landing a plane or a helicopter is done mostly on a ship deck at mid-sea. His father, a retired Wing Commander of the IAF died , last year and the family has long resided in New Delhi. Vice Admiral Karambir Singh is presently the Commander of the Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam, and supersedes Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, the Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN), who is the seniormost officer after Admiral Lanba. This is the second time that the ruling BJP government has refrained from going by the seniority principle. In 2016, the government Abhay quits as LoP, wants 5 disqualified Chandigarh, March 23 Abhay Singh Chautala on Saturday resigned as Leader of Opposition (LoP), writing to Haryana Assembly Speaker to disqualify five rebel MLAs — Naina Chautala (Dabwali), Anoop Dhanak (Uklana), Rajdeep Phogat (Dadri) and Pirthi Nambardar (Narwana), who have joined the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), and Ranbir Gangwa (Nalwa), who has switched to the BJP . In his letter to Speaker RS Chaudhry, the INLD leader wrote: “They (MLAs) have been seen to be supporting the JJP and canvassing against the INLD.” He cited the decision of Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to disqualify Sharad Yadav for anti-party activity “that amounts to giving up the membership of the party and disqualification under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution”. The INLD had won 19 seats in 2014, but its strength was reduced to 17 after the death of Hari Chand Middha (Jind) and Jaswinder Singh Sandhu (Pehowa). The BJP wrested the Jind Assembly seat in a bypoll held earlier this year. If the five MLAs are disqualified, the party will be left with only 12. The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
