Family dinners or catching up with friends wasn’t about going to a restaurant; it meant dishing out something special in your own kitchen. Food became the source of joy and togetherness, and being healthy a priority. Now, in 2021, what will the world of food look like? Industry experts share the forecast on all that will set the stage for dining trends. Among the food choices, clean eating became a world phenomenon due to the pandemic. And it will continue to grow. “Due to Covid-19, a majority has refrained from eating meats, so there will be many quick vegan recipes that make use of easily available ingredients,” says chef and food blogger Anukriti Jhamb. Reiterating the thought is Bharat Bhandari, food expert and restaurateur, “Organic produce, Vegan foods and plant-based diets are all going to be on the rise for a while.” SAFE AT HOME Likewise, in eating out versus eating at home, the latter wins. “Eating at home will be the trend. A lot of people will resort to cloud kitchens primarily because the investment is low and also because food deliveries are going up,” says Angad Singh, brand consultant, The Right Knife. “I believe it will be a mix of the two, eating at home when you can and eating out when- DIET-BASED TREND In 2020, dieticians not only prescribed what to eat when, but also provided the meal for their clients. Industry analyst Gunkaran Singh thinks whoever is doing ‘niche’ food is going to do well. “The city is opening up to international cuisines like sushi, barbeques, pork and stuff. At the same time, the demand for vegan and fresh food industry is also coming up in a very strong way. And Anukriti says this is the year for ciders. “Many local brands have launched numerous flavours in ciders, which cater to the Indian palate,” she says. Banita Sandhu tests positive for Covid-19 British actress Banita Sandhu, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Varun Dhawan in the movie October, has tested positive for Covid-19. Reportedly, she was admitted to a private hospital on Monday after she refused to be treated in a government facility, health department sources said. Sandhu, who was shooting for Kavita & Teresa, had recently travelled in the same flight with the youth who tested positive for the mutant coronavirus strain on his return from the United Kingdom. The actress was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Monday afternoon and steps were initiated to ascertain whether she has been infected with the new strain, an official said. After Banita Sandhu was taken to the Beliaghata Infectious Diseases Hospital where a separate unit has been set up to keep those returned from the UK, she refused to come out of the ambulance alleging that the hospital lacked proper infrastructure. “Eventually, with the permission of the health department, she was admitted to a private hospital,” the official said, adding that Sandhu has been kept in an isolated cabin there. Wedding bells! The year 2021 started with some good news as we witnessed two weddings on Monday! The first couple to get hitched is scriptwriters Kanika Dhillon and Himanshu Sharma. After getting engaged in December, Kanika and Himanshu tied the knot on January 4 at a private ceremony. Kanika shared some beautiful pictures from the function and wrote, “New beginnings.. #2021.” The second couple that got married recently is Parzaan Dastur and Delna Shroff.
