The actress will be seen in MX Player’s series Nakaab, which will release on September 15. The thriller also stars Esha Gupta and Gautam Rode. Directed by Soumik Sen, the story promises action, intrigue and tons of drama. About her character, Mallika Sherawat says, “This series investigates the hidden nuances of a glamorous industry.” She adds, “I play Zohra, who is an inspiring single woman at the apex of the media industry, but her character is mysterious. It’s the kind of part I have never explored before and, honestly, I feel it’s the role of a lifetime. Nakaab has crime, drama, secrets, scandals and is a complete entertainer. However, it was the mysteriously layered character written by Soumik that made me immediately take up the part.” Esha Gupta, who will play the role of subinspector Aditi Amre, says, “What pulled me towards this character is that it has immense depth. Investigative dramas or thrillers have been a personal favourite for me, and I found the backdrop of this story really interesting.” HE pandemic has made us appreciate the work frontline workers do on a regular basis, but it’s not the first time that we have come face-to-face with death. Another such crisis that shook India was 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai, on which is based the medical thriller on Amazon Prime Video — Mumbai Diaries 26/11. The series is directed by Nikhil Gonsalves and Nikkhil Advani. The latter is also the creator of historical drama The Empire on Hotstar, which is getting rave reviews. Actress Shreya Dhanwanthary, who played renowned journalist Sucheta Dalal in Scam 1992, will be seen in Mumbai Diaries 26/11 along with Konkona Sen Sharma, Mohit Raina, Natasha Bharadwaj, Mrunmayee Deshpande and others. About playing a reporter in the series, she says, “It is very different from what I have played in Scam 1992. While there I had to portray a character, an award-winning journalist, who is still seen and followed by many for her skills, here I would be playing Mansi Hirani, who is a mix of a lot of reporters that we have Shreya Dhanwanthary, who will be seen in medical thriller Mumbai Diaries 26/11 on Amazon Prime Video, says she always aims at doing something different on screen Up next known. The best part about my role is that I am connected to every character in some or the other way.” Great script Also seen in The Family Man series as Zoya, she jokes how she hasn’t signed a contract with Amazon Prime Video yet, which it might seem to some for she has done another series with them! So, what led her to sign this series? She says, “The story is so fastpaced and intriguing that it made me curious when I read the script. I badly wanted to audition for this and, gladly, I got the role. It was very clever to put a reporter in it, as it touches every person in the script. Without giving much of the story away, the interesting thing about my role is that it was the only character which was in the same frame as every other character.” Shreya will next be seen with Taapsee Pannu in the film Looop Lapeta. She will also be filming for R. Balki’s next project. Ask about her preferred genre and she says, “I like all genres. I have done a few real roles back-to-back. So, I want to do something different than what has already been seen by the audience. I want to tick all the boxes.” Shreya, who is also the author of the book, Fade To White, says writing and acting are the two things that take up her time. During the pandemic, she also directed a web series titled The Viral Wedding. “During the lockdown’s so-called free time, I had this idea of making a series and there some actors who were kind enough to say yes.” ‘Horror comedy genre in danger of getting over-exposed’ His one-liners set the audience rolling on the floor with his performance as Boris in Go Goa Gone and he is now all set to tickle the funny bone once again with Bhoot Police, a horror comedy, a genre that actor Saif Ali Khan feels is in danger of getting over-exposed. A slew of horror comedies such as Phone Bhoot and Atithi Bhooto Bhava are set to release after Bhoot Police. "I think it is in danger of getting over-exposed and you have to find a way to make it different. Also I think a lot of the situations tend to be similar and we have to put our minds to it now, and come up with a different-looking and feeling ghost," Saif said. The 51-year-old star finds horror comedy an exciting genre. "But one film has started to look a little bit like another because I think the ghost is looking the same. That is a great cause of concern and I think we all need to wake up to that. I think we made an effort in our film to be different in that sense," he said. Saif agrees that the genre is popular among all age-groups. "I think there is something nice about being scared and not so scared, and mixing that up with a good laugh. OTT route SAIF ALI KHAN That extreme of emotion is something that people enjoy. Sometimes opposites become quite interesting," he said. Bhoot Police, which ‘She was my core’ Celebs mourn the demise of Akshay Kumar’s mother, Aruna Bhatia “Re-staging the entire incident was a different ball-game altogether. Akshay wrote, “She was my core. And today I feel an unbearable pain at the very core of my existence. My maa Smt Aruna Bhatia peacefully left this world today morning and got reunited with my dad in the other world. I respect your prayers… Om Shanti.” Post her demise, condolence messages started pouring in on social media. Ajay Devgn tweeted, “Dear Akki, heartfelt condolences on your mother’s passing away. Satnaam Wahe Guru @akshaykumar.” Rakul Preet Singh wrote, “I’m so sorry for your loss sir! … Please stay strong...” Several other celebs, including Parineeti Chopra, Hansal Mehta, Nikkhil Advani, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Madhur Bhandarkar, also offered condolence messages. also stars Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Yami Gautam, Jaaved Jaafri, and Jamie Lever, will release on September 10 on Disney+ Hotstar. Saif is not very excited about an OTT release because he feels happy with the work he has done in the movie. "Well, this is why I don't like to make plans in my career because everything was going really quite well after Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Jawani Jaaneman. This was supposed to be a nice cinematic event that would translate to a step up in life in terms of career and work... So, it is a little disappointing," he said. "Ideally, you make a horror comedy because you want people to watch it in a com- munal atmosphere in a theatre but having said that we are very lucky as actors that we have another medium to display our work," Saif added. The actor feels grateful and happy that people are going to see their work. He says it is "one of my better performances". Saif concluded: "I think it is a good movie. In a way, I am disappointed that it is not coming to theatres and we are in the middle of a pandemic and everybody's disappointed about that... Is another way of me saying I am very proud of the movie. It would have been nice in theatres." — IANS Theatre route Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR and Attack will not release on OTT Am I Next bags award Rahat Kazmi Film Studios’ movie Am I Next has won the Best Feature Film award at Sweden Film Awards 2021.
