The shoot had just started couple of days back after Christmas break. According to reports, production on the series was immediately shut down and filming is expected to resume next week, if not sooner, though details remain under wraps. The Patrick Stewart-led series has one of television’s biggest crews, numbering more than 450 staffers. The infections impacted multiple zones, including cast in Zone A. Star Trek: Picard was renewed for a third season in September last year, with seasons two and three being filmed back-to-back in a bid to control costs and accommodate production schedules. Besides Star Trek, Omicron has prompted a number of shows to pause filming this week, with fellow CBS Studios-produced series, including NCIS among those that have been impacted. —TMS KIRTI KULHARI HE digital platform has brought some riveting subjects to the fore. Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s upcoming show Human explores the world of pharmaceuticals and human drug testing, a topic that gains significance in the current scenario. “The world of human drug testing is such a vast subject that it wouldn’t fit into the frame of a film. That’s why I decided to try it out as a digital show. I approached Mozez (Singh) and he liked the idea. We had a great team of writers headed by him. They took a different route than film, and opted for two female principal characters. I feel it is a wonderful change,” says director Vipul Shah, who debuts in OTT space with Human. Thus was born a web series that explores the journey of three major characters driven by grief, shame and guilt, played by Shefali Shah, Kirti Kulhari, and Vishal Jethwa. How much can an injection do – is the question that this 10episode series on Disney+Hotstar explores. Doctors’ per- Anatomy of greed SHEFALI SHAH IN HUMAN ception as the ‘savers’ is in for a twist as they use humans as guinea pigs. While Shefali and Kirti don the white coats, Vishal plays the ‘victim’, a character not so white. On getting his wife and Delhi Crime actor Shefali Shah on board, he says, “We wrote the character keeping her in mind, but she picks something only if it interests her. The character of Dr Gauri VISHAL JETHWA Nath was something that she’s never tried before, so we were worried. But then, we were hopeful that she would want to take up this new challenge,” says Shah. If Kirti was the first choice for the role of Dr Saira Sabarwal, it is Vishal Jethwa that Shah says no one would be able to recognise as the same person from Mardaani 2. Mozez Singh joins Shah in directing the series that Jethwa calls a winning combination – “"Vipul sir is sorted, practical and easy to work with director and Mozez sir brings loads of emotion and together they steer the ship skilfully. The greatest challenge, however, that they faced was to present this complex narrative to the viewers in the layman’s language. “We didn’t want it to be all too dark and depressing but keep things bright and something that the audience could understand.” That for a paltry sum of money, many ignorant people would risk their lives was something that team Human found most shocking. “Equally shocking is the extent humans can go to feed their greed,” says Kirti. She says she resonates with such roles because she is a bit of a fiery person herself. With Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, she brings forth softer and warmer character tour screens. Boney Kapoor took to his social media accounts and released a statement that read, “Given the steep rise in Covid infections across the globe, and abiding by the regulations of the authorities, we have decided to postpone the release of our film Valimai until the situation normalises…” Meanwhile, Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu has tested Covid positive. He took that there is a lot of pain in hers and embodying that pain while not having felt it, was a huge challenge. Shweta said she has done action in the past but “this kind of action is very different. “I find myself crying while running through gunshots and blasts. I am used to not being afraid. So even if it’s using a gun, I would not be scared, I would pick it up and shoot it, as opposed to here.” Talking about her character in the Netflix series, she added: “I play a character who’s fearful, yet, driven by love amidst chaos, and isn’t trying to emerge as a hero. I think that has been the biggest challenge.” The romantic thriller series Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin and Anchal Singh.
