TMS CHANDIGARH | TUESDAY | 25 JANUARY 2022 Love in modern times Mona A love triangle coupled with obsessive love, Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein is yet another crime drama to have hit the OTT space. What makes it different, however, is that the baazigar in this show is a woman! This gender-bender thriller is written and directed by Siddharth Sengupta. Anchal Singh, Shweta Tripathi and Tahir Raj Bhasin, the lead cast, share excerpts from their journey. ❝ I HAD NOT EXPLORED ROMANCE. A MAN AS OBJECT OF DESIRE IS ONE NEW-AGE THEME. TAHIR RAJ BHASIN ROLE OF IN THE ❝ THE GAVE ME PURVA SCOPE TO SERIES GREAT PORTRAY DIFFERENT SHADES. ANCHAL SINGH ❝ I LIKE DELICIOUS FOOD. AND, CHANDIGARH MEIN KYA KHAANA MILTA HAI! Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, Netflix series, has a vibe of the 90s… Little wonder then, the cast too goes on a nostalgia trip When Sonakshi got candid Sonakshi Sinha recently had a fun ‘Ask Me Anything’ session with fans on social media. And the actress gave a savage reply to a fan who asked her when she would get married. Sonakshi is known for her witty humour on Instagram and that showed hilariously in this post. One of the fans asked Sonakshi, “Ma’am everyone is getting married, when will you get married?” Reacting to the Sonakshi question, Sonakshi said with a has been linked in straight face selfie, “Everyone is also getting Covid-19? the past to actor Should I get that too?” Zaheer Iqbal, but she Sonakshi has been linked in has always maintained the past to actor Zaheer Iqbal, that he is her best but she has always maintained that he is her best friend. Talking friend about the dating rumours, Sonakshi, in an earlier interaction, had said, “Zaheer is like my best friend. We laugh off this news because it is very funny. We have worked in Double XL together. I really appreciate him as an actor. I think he was very good in his first film, Notebook. His role in Double XL is drastically different from what he did in his debut film. I think he is very talented and definitely someone to watch out for.” TMS SHWETA TRIPATHI TAHIR RAJ BHASIN IN A STILL FROM YEH KAALI KAALI ANKHEIN Tu ru ru ... tu ru ru Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein (YKKA) takes one back to 90s! “When we first heard about Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, our instant reaction was Tu ru ru... Tu ru ru. What we loved even more was its Spanish rendition,” says Shweta, claiming each time the song is played her heartbeat goes faster. “We thank Anuj Danait and Shivam Sengupta who have given us a phenomenal song. I know it’s a big challenge to give your own rendition of such famous number, but they have given it their own flavour. Add to it, any reference to Shah Rukh sir, it’s a big compliment,” adds Anchal. Baazigar happens to be the favourite film of Tahir. “Baazigar is my favourite film from the 90s; thematically YKKA matches masala films of the times. But also, Kali Kali Ankhein refers to the power structure watching you constantly.” Stalking, a crime? While 90s was the era when stalking was ‘normalised’, times are different now. The show explores the theme. “Whatever is seen on screen is the reflection of society. As much as the makers, the audience is equally responsi- ble,” says Shweta, who wanted to live the character of Shikha. “Vo pyar hi kya jisme pagalpan na ho. This is a beautiful story in which one is ready to kill and another ready to be killed.” Anchal is glad that Purva happened to her! “This role gave great scope to portray different shades.” And Tahir feels privileged to be romanced by not one, but two talented actresses! “Romance as a genre is what I had not explored earlier. A man as object of desire is one new-age theme.” Love for Chandigarh “Chandigarh resides in my heart and soul. Not because my family members live there, but that I have gotten so much love from the city,” says Anchal. In fact, Tahir also lived in Chandigarh for three years as his father commanded Air Force 21 squadron. “I studied at St. Stephen’s 45. Those were the formative years when I took the first steps on stage.” Not that Shweta feels any less for the city. “Food is extremely important in my life. If love is the guiding force for my character, in real life it is food! Not unhealthy but good, delicious food. And, Chandigarh mein kya khaana milta hai!” HAS POURED AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF HER FORTUNE INTO MAKING THE WORLD A MUCH BETTER PLACE... While YKKA is fetching a good response on Netflix, work-wise all three have their hands full. Tahir still wakes up to thousands of messages on social media. “Going from a non-cricketer to playing someone like Gavaskar took seven rigorous months. The film relives such an iconic moment.” He is also seen in Ranjish Hi Sahi, and his next is the film Looop Lapeta. Shweta has Gone Game Season 2 and the film Kanjoos Makkhichoos lined up. Anchal has Undekhi Season 2 up next! ANCHAL SINGH Diana Penty seems to have a jam-packed calendar in 2022. The actress has her hands full with four back-to-back projects. While she makes her Malayalam debut with Dulquer Salman in the upcoming film Salute, she also has a supernatural thriller, Adbhut, and two untitled projects in the making. Now news is that she might be collaborating with Dharma Productions in the near future! If sources are anything to go by, we hear that Diana is in talks with the celebrated production house for an exciting upcoming project. Making the speculation stronger, Diana Penty was recently spotted at the Dharma Productions office. She was seen in a chic look. Diana paired beige pants with a brown shirt and animal print heels. — TMS Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs wavers on JK Rowling controversy ❝ JK ROWLING Up next Diana has her hands full Open stance Actor Jason Isaacs, best known for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, addressed the controversy swirling around JK Rowling in an interview published regarding the author’s statements on the transgender community. Her statements caused great division in the Harry Potter community and resulted in cast members, such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint issue statements amid the backlash. When asked about the Harry Potter creator, Isaacs refused to sound off on the mounting criticism and pointed to the positive humanitarian efforts Rowling has championed. “There’s a bunch of stuff about Joa I don’t want to get drawn into the trans issues, talking about them, because it’s such an extraordinary minefield,” Isaacs said. “One of the things that people should know about her too, not as a counter-argument, is that she has poured an enormous amount of her fortune into making the world a much better place, for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable children through her charity Lumos. And that is unequivocally good. Many of us Harry Potter actors have worked for it, and seen on the ground the work that they do,” he added. Isaacs believes he should only take a stance only after a frank, open exchange with Rowling. “So for all that she has said, some very controversial things, I was not going to be jumping to stab her in the front, or back, without a conversation with her, which I’ve not managed to have yet.” — IANS SHWETA TRIPATHI Spider-Man: No Way Home is the sixth highest grossing movie in history Web of success Tom Holland-starrer SpiderMan: No Way Home has become the sixth-highest grossing movie in history garnering $1.69 billion at the worldwide box office.
