Presiding over the adalat, Assistant Commissioner (Grievances)-cum-District Revenue Officer Ajit Pal Singh said the administration had held pension adalat to address the problems being faced by the pensioners of the state government. He said 29 cases were received during the proceedings of the pension adalat on Wednesday and all cases were forwarded to the parent departments of the pensioners. He also asked the officers to ensure a constant follow up of these cases so that the pensioners could be facilitated at the earliest. TNS WOMAN ARRESTED WITH 5-GM HEROIN Jalandhar: The rural police arrested a woman and seized 5 grams of heroin from her possession. The accused has been identified as Jaswinder Kaur alias Jassi, a resident of Pasla village, Nurmahal. A case under Sections 61, 21, 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against her at Nurmahal police station. The accused was arrested near Pasla village overpass during a routine checking last evening. The accused was reportedly a habitual offender as seven cases under the NDPS Act were already registered against her in various police stations. TNS ONE HELD WITH 25 CASES OF LIQUOR Jalandhar: The police team of Rama Mandi police station on Wednesday seized 25 cases of branded liquor and nabbed one smuggler. The accused has been identified as Amritpal Singh, a resident of Ghakhla village in Jalandhar. As per the police, they received a tip-off that two smugglers coming from Chugitti chowk side would be crossing Nangalshama chowk to deliver the consignment to their customers. Acting on the information, the police team laid a naka near Nangalshama chowk and apprehended Amritpal Singh. A Honda Amaze bearing number PB10BE2100 was seized. A case under Sections 61of the Excise Act has been registered against the accused. TNS 7 COVID CASES IN HOSHIARPUR Hoshiarpur: In a fresh spike, seven new Covid cases were reported from the district on Wednesday. A total of 527 samples were taken and 3,187 reports were awaited. Talking to The Tribune, Mandeep Singh, Superintendent, Tehbazari Department, said the team has removed encroachments from many markets including Model Town, Rama Mandi, Mithapur, Jyoti chowk, Mai Hiran Gate, Sheikhan Bazaar and other locations, along with from busy chowks and impounded a number of vehicles. “A total of 625 challans were issued to violators in the past six months during special drives and surprise visits to different markets and areas in the city. As many as 150 challans issued in the past few days were submitted in the court today,” he said, adding that the team would continue the practice in near future to maintain a smooth flow of traffic. Lally is related to former Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder S Randhawa. The appointment came in the midst of an ongoing inquiry into the allegedly rigged elections of the Board of Directors held on November 17 last. The candidates of the opposition parties were not allowed to even file their nomination papers and a massive protest was held on that day. Today, nine members of the Board of Directors who had got elected unopposed that day were to elect the chairman and the vice-chairman. While one of them, Anokh Singh Cheema, did not even turn up for voting, three other members reportedly expressed their dissent over the proposed name of Gurdit Singh Lally, who is the son of the exDistrict Congress Committee chief Sukhwinder Lally. The incident took place on Monday when the car owner stepped out from his vehicle to purchase something from a shop near Sanjha Chulla restaurant in Johal Market. His wife was in the car and the engine of the car was on. The miscreants took advantage of the situation and took away the car at gunpoint. Sub-Inspector Jatinder Kumar said the police were scrutinising the footage of CCTV cameras in the area. He added that as per eye witnesses and the victim’s statement, it has been found out that three persons were involved in the crime, but nothing concrete has been found. He said the car belongs to the owner of a medical centre at Mota Singh Nagar here. A case under Section 379-B of the IPC and under relevant sections of the Arms Act has been registered. “The police parties are working on the case,” he added.
