TNS Chandigarh, May 31 Two persons have been arrested by the district crime cell of the UT police for allegedly running a betting racket during the Indian Premier League (IPL). A total of ~17.45 lakh has been recovered from them. The suspects have been identified Hitesh Hans (34) and Raju Thapa (30), both residents of Sector 63. The police claimed that they had received information that a few persons were gambling at a ground in Sector 38 and they were possessing huge cash. The police stated that the suspects had collected the money after making people bet in IPL matches. The police conducted a raid and nabbed both suspects. They recovered ~11.67 lakh from their possession. While checking Hitesh’s car, the police recovered ~5.80 lakh. During interrogation, Hitesh disclosed that he worked for Sanjay Khurana, a resident of Sector 45, and the money kept in the car was supposed to be delivered to Sanjay. A case under Sections 13/3/67 of the Gambling Act and Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 39 police station. It has also come to light that vendors also sit near Bird Park. This was his third attempt. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had announced the results of the examination yesterday. A resident of Sikar district in Rajasthan, he completed his degree in Electrical Engineering in 2018 from the IIT, Ropar, and also served as the sports secretary of the institute. His father Subhash Chand, a former Army man, had lost his left leg during the Kargil War. Chand’s spirit of service for his country influenced his son greatly. The younger brother of two sisters, Pritam’s mother Sumitra is a housewife. A promising student during his graduation, Pritam’s study mantra during his long exam preparations was consistency. “One needs to remind oneself about what inspired him or her to take up this path in the first place. If one remains consistent throughout the preparations, he or she is already ahead of 90 per cent of the competition,” he says. I finally took the call of quitting my job in October 2020 and was able to clear the exam in this attempt with AIR 67,” said Malhotra, who hails from Panchkula. Antriksh Jain from Zirakpur secured the 130th rank in his first attempt. He possesses a degree in BTech (Mechanical). “I did my preparations for the UPSC examination mostly through online platforms. After completing my degree, I got a job in Hyderabad. However, after completing one year in the job, I realised my potential and starting preparing for the UPSC,” said Jain. Inspector’s son Gaurav does him proud Gaurav Dogra, son of Inspector Sudesh, who is in-charge of the Burail police station, left his job in 2019 to pursue his dream of clearing this examination. He scored the 597th rank. Dogra, who studied from Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh, and completed his BE in Metallurgy and Material Science from PEC, had been eyeing to clear the exams for three years. Pritam says his goal is to promote women empowerment in the region. Mohali, May 31 A 17-year-old boy of Jandpur village made a suicide bid after getting depressed over the death of Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, alias Sidhu Moosewala, on Tuesday afternoon. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Phase 6, Mohali, where he is under treatment. Doctors said the boy had taken poison, reportedly phenyl, and was being treated.
