The Khanna police yesterday registered a case of fraud against the unknown person. Varinder Kumar of New Khanna city in a complaint to the police said on June 2, he received a phone call. The caller introduced himself as Gurpreet Singh, son of his good friend Gurcharan Singh. “The caller told me that he has reached the USA and he wants me to deposit Rs 2.70 lakh in the account of the ticketing agent. Considering the caller as son of my friend, I deposited the money in the account number provided by him. Later, I was shocked to know that Gurpreet has not gone to the USA,” the complainant said. Investigating officer ASI Charanjit Singh said after registering a case against the suspect, efforts were on to identify the caller. TNS GANG OF THIEVES BUSTED, 2 NABBED Ludhiana: The CIA wing of the city police on Friday busted a gang of thieves and arrested two of its members. The suspects have been identified as Gurmit Singh of Jagraon and Amandeep Singh of Bank Colony. A case has also been registered against the duo. DCP (investigation) Varinder Singh Brar said the suspects were running a gang of thieves and they had committed several thefts in the past in the city. On Friday, the CIA team, led by inspector Rajesh Kumar, had got a tip-off that the gang members were roaming in the city. Following which, a naka was laid and they were nabbed. The DCP said the police also recovered five cell phones and one motorcycle from them. Now, police remand of the suspects would be sought for so that in further probe more members of the gang could be arrested and more recovery of stolen valaubles could be made. DCP (Investigation) Varinder Singh Brar, ADCP (Crime) Jagatpreet Singh, CIA in-charge Inspector Rajesh Kumar addressed a press conference in this regard. On April 12 night, six robbers had kidnapped a woman, Deepa, and her father-in-law Nirdosh (63) from outside a restaurant in Upkar Nagar and took away their car and gold ornaments after throwing them out. The next day the car was recovered from Balaji Colony. The DCP said an investigation in the case was being conducted by the crime wing in a scientific and technical way, which led to the identification of the suspects involved in the crime. Acting on a tip-off, the suspects were arrested by the police. After attachment of bank accounts and orders for auction of part of its land for failure to refund money to two property buyers earlier, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has issued warrant of attachment of another piece of land measuring around 21 acres located in Dakha village of the district. FILE Orders for the attachment of land owned by Ireo Waterfront were made by commission on May 25, 2022, on the complaint filed by a property buyer, Sudha Dhir (Consumer Complaint No 682 of 2017). During the last hearing on May 25, the commission noted that the respondent (Ireo Waterfront) had failed to refund an amount of Rs 3,73,14,375 along with simple interest to the aggrieved consumer within four weeks as per orders made on September 16, 2021. In its earlier orders in favour of the complainant, the commission had ruled: “Let the warrant of attachment be issued for July 7, 2022. It should be issued in relation to the property, value of which is sufficient for the recovery of the decretal amount. Learned counsel for the DH (decree holder) is directed to furnish details of the movable and immovable properties of the company within four weeks and thereafter, warrant of attachment be issued.” The warrant of attachment of land has been sent to the office of the Deputy Commissioner here for compliance before the next date of hearing on July 7, 2022. c m y b Eight days after committing the carjacking and robbery incident, two of the suspects in the case, Bobby and Pankaj, had resorted to firing on the Tibba road on April 20 and the Tibba police had also nabbed them for opening fire but the police had failed to find out that the duo was also wanted in the carjacking case. At present, both of them are lodged in jail. Spreading message of saving environment, healthy living Ludhiana, June 3 A cycle rally, sponsored by the district administration in collaboration with bicycle enthusiasts, cycling clubs and NGOs, was taken out at Waterfront City here to celebrate ‘World Bicycle Day’. Nearly 500 cyclists took part in the rally and completed rides in different categories. The participants in the rally, including Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik, Commissioner of Police Kaustubh Sharma and MC Commissioner Shena Aggarwal, WORLD BICYCLE DAY exhorted the people to adopt bicycle, which would not only save the environment and curb air pollution but also help in adopting a healthy lifestyle.
