The police said Ajay Verma, alias Guggu (20), a resident of Mauli Jagran, was nabbed near the cremation ground at Mauli Jagran while he was in possession of 2.5 kg of ganja. A case was registered at the Mauli Jagran police station. In another incident, Ajay Singh (29) of Hoshiarpur was arrested with 470 gm of charas. A case has been registered at the Sector 39 police station. TNS 19-YR-OLD YOUTH HELD WITH PISTOL Chandigarh: The police have arrested a 19-year-old youth while possessing a countrymade pistol and two cartridges. The suspect Rahul, a resident of Kharar, was nailed at the forest area near the grain market roundabout. A case under Arms Act has been registered at the Maloya police station. TNS Chandigarh: Two motorcycleborne miscreants snatched a mobile phone from a 22-yearold youth. The complainant, Abhishek Kumar of Maloya Colony, reported that unknown miscreants snatched his phone near the garbage processing plant in Sector 25. A case has been registered. TNS 84-YEAR-OLD WOMAN SUCCUMBS IN MOHALI Mohali: An 84-year-old woman died due to Covid-19 during the past 24 hours, taking toll to 1,157 in the district. The deceased was fully vaccinated and died at a private hospital. She was suffering from co-morbidity. The district also saw 54 fresh cases and 65 recoveries. Meanwhile, a total of 20,71,111 beneficiaries in the district have been given anti-Covid shots till date. As many as 11,52,483 people have been given the first dose while 8,72,139 of them people have been given the second dose too. Besides, 46,489 beneficiaries have been given the booster dose or the third dose. TNS UT LOGS 55 CASES Chandigarh: The city witnessed 55 fresh cases of Covid on Thursday, taking the active caseload to 382. While there was no fresh fatality, 69 patients recovered from the disease. The virus has claimed 1,165 lives in the city so far. TNS 42 TEST POSITIVE IN PANCHKULA Panchkula: The district reported 42 new cases of Covid on Thursday, while 41 patients got the better of the disease. However, there was no fresh fatality due to the virus. There are now 172 active cases in the district. TNS SUNRISE SATURDAY 5:28 AM TWITTER/THETRIBUNECHD FACEBOOK/CHANDIGARHTRIBUNE Day on, woman’s body found, two still missing MAP NOT TO SCALE RIVULET MISHAP Recovered near Dadu Majra | Victim hailed from Pinjore Chandigarh, July 7 The body of a 26-year-old woman, who along with two others was washed away while crossing Patiala ki Rao rivulet in a car at Tanda village, near Nayagaon, on Wednesday, was today recovered near Dadu Majra, around 15 km away. The victim has been identified as Pooja, a resident of Pinjore. Her foster brother had filed a missing person’s complaint at the Pinjore police station yesterday after she failed to return home from office. Some passersby noticed the body in the Patiala ki Rao near the dumping ground at Dadu Majra and informed the police. Soon after receiving information about a car being washed away in the raging Patiala ki Rao yesterday, a team had rushed to the scene and inspected the spot. During investigation, the police found out the woman along with two men had been swept away in a car. The vehicle was later recovered from slush in the rivulet at Kane ka Wada, around 2 km downstream. One of the missing persons has been identified as Gaurav, a cabbie, while the identity of the third person is unknown. The body has been kept at the GMSH-16 mortuary.
