The accused has been identified as Nihit Durwar, a resident of Madhya Pradesh (MP). In her complaint, the woman alleged that she was earlier married to a Delhi-based man and the accused was his friend. The accused used to keep a bad eye on her due to which she got divorced. Later, she shifted to her parent’s home in Ludhiana. The woman alleged that later, the accused threatened her through phone calls. He used to post wrong comments against her sisters on social media. She alleged that the accused also started sending obscene messages on her mobile phone. He had made several accounts on Facebook and made objectionable comments on the social media to defame her and her sisters. A case under Sections 354D, 294, 509 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 67 of the IT Act has been registered against the accused at the Dugri police station. The accused, a mason by profession, is a resident of Boparai Khurd village in the district. The matter came to light when the complainant, the mother of the victim, and her son returned home from her in-laws’ house on Thursday night and found the accused violating the girl. Later, the man was nabbed by police officials, led by Jaspreet Kaur, when he was trying to leave the area in the late hours. All were sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) of 10 years each. Those convicted include Janki Devi, her husband Munish, Bhola Devi and Suman Devi, all hailing from Bihar. A fine of Rs 1 lakh each was also imposed upon the accused. The court held that the prosecution has proved the charges levelled against them beyond any reasonable shadow of doubt. It also declined the plea of leniency raised by them. Additional public prosecutor Amandeep Singh Bhatti said a case against them was registered at the Doraha police station on September 1, 2021, following the recovery of a huge quantity of narcotics. The injured, Abhishek and Sahil, were arrested in the murder case of a 15-year-old boy, Shavan Kumar, who was killed at the Civil Hospital Emergency recently. The duo were earlier on police remand. On Saturday, they were sent to the jail on judicial remand. Minutes after they reached the jail, they were allegedly attacked by a group of inmates with sharp weapons.
