The accused has been identified as Jaspal Singh of Jaura village. The victim, a married woman of Thathi Khara village, had lodged a complaint to the police on Friday.The police said the victim was in her home on July 24 when the accused committed the crime. He allegedly threatened her of dire consequences. A case under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC has been registered against the accused. Sub Inspector Sunita Rani recorded the statement of the victim. However, removing 1,500 metric tonnes of garbage piled up in the city during the last three days will be a big challenge for them. The workers had suspended door-to-door collection after they went on an indefinite protest on Wednesday. While, Municipal Health Officer (MHO) of the Municipal Corporation (MC) Dr Kiran Kumar has deployed chief sanitary inspectors, sanitary inspectors and supervisors to check the lifting of garbage and streamline door to door collection, workers of solid waste management are working in double shifts to remove the garbage. He said at present, six cyclists of the university were representing India in the Railway station sans facilities F&CC meet on Aug 4 Tribune News Service Amritsar, July 30 After seven months, the Municipal Corporation’s Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) meeting will be held on August 4. The agenda branch of the MC has asked the heads of various departments of the corporation to send their proposals by Monday. The agenda for the meeting will be prepared on Tuesday morning. Over 90 proposals are expected to come up in the meeting. At present, the agenda branch received 16 proposals for development works. For the last two years, a project of recarpeting over 50 roads stretches at a cost of Rs 46 crore is stuck due to some technical reasons. Now, this proposal road project will also be approved in the meeting of the F&CC. Apart from this, some proposals could not be signed by the members in the meeting held earlier, those proposals will be again presented before the meeting. Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu and Corporation Commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj held a meeting with officers of different departments of the MC regarding the F&CC meeting. The Mayor said the meetings would be held on August 4. Financial approvals for several projects are expected. The Mayor said the development of the city was a priority of the MC. He said the development works of the city would be conducted without any discrimination. He said a meeting of the General House of the MC would be called soon and the development works would be approved. The minister said he was of the view that good playgrounds, PFUCTO to launch stir for UGC pay scales Amritsar, July 30 The Punjab Federation of University College Teachers’ Organisation (PFUCTO) has decided to launch an agitation against the state government’s delay in implementing the UGC pay scales on a par with other states. PFUCTO spokesperson Dr LS Kang and Dr Jagwant Singh, president and general secretary of PFUCTO, welcomed the decision of the Cabinet of Himachal Pradesh to implement the UGC pay scales. “For the first time, the Chandigarh Administration and HP have decided to break away from the practice of adopting the notification of Punjab. This makes Punjab ongoing bioremediation work of solid waste management company. A huge amount of garbage can be seen piled up over the bins at the source level. Residents irked over non-lifting of garbage as wet garbage is stinking in houses. “The vehicles of door to door collection firm were irregular and visit once or twice in a week. Tribune News Service Tarn Taran: One person was killed in a road accident on the Jhabal-Attari road near Gandiwind village on Friday when his car collided head-on with a mini-bus coming from the opposite side. The deceased has been identified as Rasal Singh (56), a resident of Sarai Amanat Khan. He worked as a lab technician at the Community Health Centre, Valtoha. He was returning to his home after office in his car. He was at Gandiwind village, which is just one kilometre behind his village when some stray animal suddenly appeared on the road. While trying his level best to avoid the animal, his car collided with the oncoming mini-bus. He was seriously injured. While being taken to a private hospital in Amritsar, he died on the way. ASI Sukhdev Singh, posted with the Sarai Amanat Khan police station, said on the statement of Jatinderpal Singh, son of the victim, a case under Section 174, CrPC, had been registered.
