They should now increase vigil along the canal minors and irrigation channels in villages, besides the Upper Bari Doab Canal (UBDC) flowing on the city outskirts. People, especially youngsters, throng canals after the rise in temperature. Tragic accidents have occurred in the UBDC in the past and many a time patrolling was done by the police. With a view to discouraging people from swimming in the canal, the canal and irrigation department constructed a concrete embankment, besides raising its height. However, a visit to the canal revealed that people tend to take a dip to get relief from the sweltering heat. They choose remote parts of the canal to take a bath. The owner of the underconstruction house has been booked for providing a faulty old fan to the labourer, which led to his death. The accused owner has been identified as Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Gali Khusreyan Wali, New Azaad Nagar here. The deceased has been identified as Gullu Ram, a native of Bihar. Ram Avadhi, a worker at the construction site, stated in his complaint to the Sultanwind police that he works as mason and was working at Diamond Estate along with Gullu Ram. The 24x7 canal water supply project was launched in April 2021 at a cost of Rs 665.32 crore. MC officials gave detailed information to the ministers and MLAs about the construction of overhead water tanks and water pipes to be laid in the city. This project will benefit the city residents for up to 30 years. The water from the plant will be completely purified and reach every home. For this, 51 new overhead water tanks will be built in the city and 24 old water tanks will be repaired. A 112-km-long water pipeline will also be laid in the city. The deceased has been identified as Subhleen Kaur, daughter of Rajwinder Singh, a resident of Patti town. She was a student of nursery standard of Sacred Heart Convent School, Thakarpura (Patti). The incident took place when Sukhleen along with her elder sister Sukhdeep Kaur (7) were dropped near their house by the school van. While reversing the vehicle, the van driver ran over the girl, who was walking behind it. Amritsar, August 2 On the third day of the 22nd Bharat Rang Mahotsav organised by the National School of Drama in Amritsar under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Chetna Rang Group staged the saga of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan of Delhi under the direction of Ashish Srivastava. Written by Ashish Srivastav, the play “Prithviraj Chauhan” was presented with a grandeur of a period drama that it was. Retelling the tale of Prithvi Raj Chauhan, who died young, while defending his country, his honour, was depicted as a man of his words. Even after a thousand years of his death, he is remembered for his courage, loyalty and heroism. Right from the court politics to his rivalry with Jaichand and his love story with Samyogita, the play gave account of Prithvi Raj Chauhan through the lens of history. The director used multimedia effects, creating shadows and 3D effects for dramatisation. At present, no seasonal vegetable is selling below Rs 50 per kg. Seasonal vegetables such as ladyfinger, gourds, french beans and other vegetables have become unaffordable for poor people. While ladyfinger is available at Rs 80 per kg, french beans is costing Rs 60 per kg. Even gourds are priced between Rs 50 and Rs 70. A large number of police personnel were seen outside the gurdwara as students and research scholars’ unions passed 10 resolutions and formed a nine-member student action committee to take up several issues of students with the university authorities.
