Recently, two SMSes related to the SBI account and credit cards were received by several customers from an unknown number which read, “Dear Customer, Your SBI account or SBI Credit Card closed today contact now and update your Aadhaar or PAN details in the below link.” A link to a site is provided in the text that the customers are asked to update their Aadhaar or PAN card details on. If the customer submits the details, a one-time password (OTP) is generated, which, if Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a local resident on the charge of snatching a woman’s gold chain. Investigating officer (IO) Lakhbir Singh said the accused has been identified as Makhann, a resident of Mohalla Baghwala, Shahkot. He was asked to share the OTP, and the moment he did, he lost the money. Whenever a person receives such message, they must cross check on their bank’s official website... they must avoid sharing any personal details such as Aadhaar or bank account number. Palvinder Singh, CYBER SECURITY EXPERT Cyber cell officials shared on the site, the customer stands to lose money from his bank account. Talking to Jalandhar Tribune, Palvinder Singh, a cyber security expert, revealed that the message had been doing the rounds for the past several days. “I have received so many calls and enquiries regarding the credibility of the message. I have instructed the customers not to open the link to the site and provide their Aadhaar or PAN card details. These fraudsters do not know the actual bank account numbers of customers. They just send the customer a random message and, the unsuspecting customer provides the details,” he added. THREE HELD WITH 50-GM HEROIN Phillaur: The Phillaur police arrested three drugs smugglers and recovered 50 gm of heroin, an air pistol and a car from them. Deputy Superintendent of the Police Jagdish Raj said the arrested accused were identified as Mandip Singh, Ajay Bains and Sukha . The accused were nabbed at a checkpoint when they were coming to deliver the consignment. OC Kapurthala, September 13 Following clash between two groups at Kapurthala modern jail on Tuesday, 12 inmates have been booked by the district police. The two groups of inmates reportedly clashed over a minor issue and used weapons made out of iron sheets to hit at each other. Two inmates, Balwinder and Harvinder, also got injured during the clash, said ASI Baldev Singh of Kotwali police station. The four MC councillors joined AAP in the presence of Local Bodies Minister Inderbir Singh Nijjer at Circuit House. In the letter, the allottees complained that the scheme was launched in 2011 and again re-launched in 2016, but till date they failed to provide possession with basic amenities. The allottees told the EO that the Trust had miserably failed to carry out development work at the site. The allottees claimed that basic amenities like water supply, sewerage, construction of roads, etc., have not been provided in the said area. “There are heavy overhead electrical wires over the plots in the C block and there are illegal encroachments on 45-ft and 120-ft roads, which connect the Domoria Flyover and Surya Enclave Extension”, they added. “Despite many reminders to the Jalandhar Improvement Trust, no one has bothered to develop the Surya Enclave Extension and provide the possession to us with complete basic amenities as per brochure. Father of the victim said the accused took his daughter by luring her to watch a film. “He took her to a secluded place and then raped her. Later, he dropped my daughter in front of our home at night,” the father of the victim said. A case under Section 376 of the IPC and the POCSO Act was registered against the accused. In a separate case, a woman from Banga lodged a complaint with the police that she was being tortured by her in-laws and husband for want of dowry. The woman in her complaint to the police said that she got married in 2016 and thereafter her in-laws started harassing her for dowry. The couple has a son. The woman has alleged that her husband is a drug addict and has no source of income. “I have been working in factories to nurture my son. My husband has already taken more than Rs 2 lakh from my family, but he and in-laws are demanding more money from me,” she said in her statement. The police have registered a case under Section 498-A and 323 of the IPC. — TNS
