As the deceased is reported to have left a suicide note in which he had admitted that he took the extreme step on his own, the city police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). The body would be handed over to his family after conducting the autopsy at the Malerkotla subdivision level hospital on Sunday. As per the suicide note, the deceased was upset over his illness and his wife’s health, who had also been bedridden for a long time. Ludhiana, December 31 A man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the forest area of Kadian in Ludhiana. It seems that the decomposed body was lying there for the past few days. Residents of the area noticed foul smell and later, they found a man lying dead following which they raised an alarm. Ladhowal SHO Jagdev Singh, along with police officials, reached the spot. He said a rope was also found near the body which signalled that either the man had committed suicide or he was murdered. The suspect is a trainer at a gym in the city. He has been identified as Abhishek Shahi, alias Abhi (25), of New Raju Colony. DCP (Crime) Varinder Singh Brar, ADCP (Crime) Rupinder Sran and CIA inspector Beant Juneja issued a statement in this regard on Saturday. As per the ADCP (Crime), a tip-off was received that the suspect, a gym trainer, was into the notorious trade of heroin smuggling. Accordingly, the police laid a naka on 33 Feet Road and intercepted the motorcyclist for checking. During frisking, 65 gm of heroin, a digital weighing machine and a small polythene were seized from him, Sran said. CIA in-charge inspector Beant Juneja said Abhishek was friend of Paras Khatri, who was hacked to death by a group of armed people at Bhamian Kalan on October 21, 2022. Then, the former had a fortunate escape from the spot. Juneja said now, his police remand would be sought from the court for further interrogation.
