The actor will be collaborating with Akshay Kumar for a biopic on C Sankaran Nair. LUDHIANA | THURSDAY | 12 JANUARY 2023 It’s time to Naatu… N AATU NAATU, the irrepressible, fun number from the blockbuster RRR, danced its way to a Golden Globe as the ‘best original song-motion picture’ — and to Indian showbiz history — at a star spangled awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Tuesday night. The song, which beat the likes of Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Lady Gaga, to win the coveted award is the first time that an Indian production has won a Golden Globe. HEIDI KLUM Stars return to soggy carpet SILVER HAZE LILY JAMES TUX & ALL There were lots of black suits and tuxedoes. Eddie Redmayne showed up in black and brown trim with a huge silk rosette on one lapel, courtesy of Valentino. Another standout: Colman Domingo in a black tux with sparkly jewel embellishment. Elvis, also known as Austin Butler, entered the building in a traditional black tux, while Andrew Garfield went for orange with an open collar on a black shirt underneath. Donald Glover was practically in PJs. His comfy robe shirt and relaxed trousers were white. MARGOT ROBBIE METALLIC SHINE Sheryl Lee Ralph of Abbott Elementary in jewel-tone blue with chunky embellishment led the train parade in her high-neck JESSICA CHASTAIN look. Viola Davis also opted for a jewel-tone, body-skimming blue. Chloe Flower went for a longer train in a white, lightly embellished number. Niecy Nash-Betts wore a lovely deep purple gown with chunky sparkle, paired with a large-shouldered coat and long matching opera gloves. There was a healthy showing of golds, too, including an adorable 19-year-old Bailey Bass from Avatar: The Way of Water in a long look with a delicate pattern. The women kept their jewels to a minimum. Colour palette A pregnant Abby Elliott went for burnt orange with allaround sequins from Pamella Roland. Her sparkler had long blouson sleeves and a high neck. Billy Porter walked in a crimson tuxedo gown by Christian Siriano and high chunky heeled blinged-out silver boots. Anya Taylor-Joy went for a sunny yellow two-piece Dior look . Margot Robbie was dressed in pale pink Chanel adorned with beads and feathers, while Lily James went old school Hollywood in 50 meters of red fabric. Jenna Ortega also went for the crisscross look in a breezy, pleated copper colour. — AP Peter Pereira passes away Veteran cinematographer and special effects provider Peter Pereira passed away on January 10. He was 93. Peter Pereira was popularly known for films such as Mr India, Sheshnaag, Ajooba, Border and Aa Gale Lag Jaa, to name a few. Confirming the sad demise of the cinematographer, actor Abhishek Bachchan took to his Twitter handle and penned a tribute to him. Abhishek wrote, “Our industry lost a legend today. #PeterPereira was a pioneer in Cinematography in our films. One of the greatest! I remember him fondly from the sets of my father’s films that I visited as a child. Kind, loving, dignified and brilliant. Rest in Peace, sir.” In no time, Twitterati took to the comments’ section and paid condolences. TMS After the historic win, Rajamouli took to Twitter and thanked everyone for showering abundant love on RRR team. He wrote, “SPEECHLESS… Music truly knows no boundaries. Congratulations & thank you PEDDANNA for giving me #NaatuNaatu. This one is special. I thank each and every fan across the globe for shaking their leg and making it popular ever since the release of #GoldenGlobes.” —ANI RRR wins Golden Globe for best song for Naatu Naatu, loses best picture non-English trophy The stars were back for the Golden Globes’ return to television, walking a soggy greyish carpet in relatively predictable looks — with a few notable exceptions. A look at fashion from the 80th Golden Globes on Tuesday... Heidi Klum showed up in a sky-high silver sparkler with a feathery embellishment over one shoulder as the crowd was treated to a reprieve from rain that has plagued Southern California. Also in silver? Angela Bassett, along with Jessica Chastain in a sparkly body hugger done in a checkerboard and starburst design. SS Rajamouli “speechless” RRR had also been nominated in the ‘best picture-non English’ category and lost out to Argentina’s historical drama Argentina, 1985. But there was compensation aplenty. “And the Globe goes to Naatu Naatu RRR,” actor Jenna Ortega announced on stage to loud cheers from the RRR team. The track has been composed by veteran music director MM Keeravaani and voiced by singers Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj. Naatu Naatu, filmed on Ram Charan and Jr NTR, roughly translates to dance like no one’s watching in Telugu. Choreographed by Prem Rakshith, it has legions of followers still trying to master its steps. Naatu Naatu was nominated alongside Taylor Swift’s Carolina from Where The Crawdads Sing, Ciao Papa from Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick and Rihanna’s Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. —PTI ❝ I AM VERY MUCH OVERWHELMED: MM KEERAVAANI T HE song’s music composer MM Keeravaani, who accepted the trophy on behalf of the team, got emotional during his speech. He said, “Thank you very much HFPA for this prestigious award, the Golden Globe. I am very much overwhelmed by this great moment happening and I am very happy to share this excitement with my wife. It’s been an age-old practice to say that this award belongs to someone else, not me. So, I was planning to not say those words when I get an award like this. But I am sorry to say that I am going to repeat that tradition because I mean my words.” Keeravani thanked Rajamouli, the film’s lead stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR, as well as the song’s lyricist, co-composers, programmers and scene animator “This award belongs to, in order of priority, my brother and director of the movie SS Rajamouli for his constant trust in my work and support. Mr Prem Rakshit, who animated the Naatu Naatu song and without him this would not have happened. Kala Bhairava, who had given wonderful arrangements for the song and Mr Chandrabose for his wonderful words as a lyricist. Mr Rahul Sipligunj along with Kaala Bhairava, who rendered the song with high energy. NT Ramarao and Ram Charan, who danced with full stamina for the song. Thank you all,” said Keeravaani.
