He was brutally attacked by unidentified assailants late on Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Vikas Kumar. ADCP Tushar Gupta, along with the police force, reached the spot and started a probe. As per information, the deceased was working with some steel factory. On Monday night when he was returning home, he was cornered by some miscreants. After arguments, he was hacked to death with some sharp objects. When Vikas did not reach home till midnight, his family members started searching for him but to no avail. Early on Tuesday morning when sanitation workers were cleaning the road, they found the youth’s body lying in a pool of blood in empty plot following which they informed the police. Since the body was found near the house of the deceased, his family members also reached the spot after seeing police officials and residents and identified the body. ADCP Tushar Gupta said CCTV cameras were being scanned to get any clue about the assailants. The case was being probed from all angles. The flying dust on the road also troubles shopkeepers and residents of nearby areas. Residents also complained about the slow movement of traffic or traffic snarls due to the ongoing road project at various locations on the two roads. Notably, a portion of Bhai Bala Chowk on Ferozepur Road was recently closed for traffic movement as the Elevated Road project was underway. The residents have demanded that the authorities must take necessary steps to get the issues resolved at the earliest. Notably on January 8, the police had registered a case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC against Amit Sharma, a resident of the Tibba Road area. A case was registered after a woman, a city resident, had lodged a police complaint that on January 7 evening, Amit had forcibly made her to sit in his car, assaulted her and also outraged her modesty. After the registration of case, Shweta Sharma, wife of the suspect, met the Commissioner of Police and The FIR states that the suspect was at the Jalandhar bypass during the incident while the CCTV footage shows that he was present at his office. As per the FIR, the suspect, Amit Sharma, had assaulted the woman in his car at 6.30 pm on January 7 while Amit’s family presented a CCTV camera footage which belied the claims of the police. The complainant further said the next day, on January 9, she was shocked to know that an FIR was registered by the police against her husband. “In the FIR, the complainant woman mentioned that on January 7 at 6.30 pm Amit had forced her to sit in his car near the Jalandhar bypass and also assaulted her. However, in reality, my husband had not met that woman on January 7 and the police without verifying facts registered a case in haste. Lowest min temperature of 0.8°C recorded in 14 years Ludhiana, January 17 As cold wave continued in the city, the season’s lowest temperature was recorded at 0.8°C in the city on Tuesday morning. Cold wave is also expected on Wednesday. Principal agrometeorologist at the PAU, Dr KK Gill, said it was the season’s lowest minimum temperature here and also the lowest recorded in the city after 2008. The Department of Climate Change and Agricultural Meteorology, PAU, Ludhiana, recorded a minimum temperature of 0.8°C and a maximum of 17.2°C on Tuesday.
