The police recovered nine cans containing around 448 bottles of extra neutral alcohol, besides a can containing 49 bottles of illicit liquor manufactured from ENA was recovered from her. The raid was conducted at her residence following a tip-off. The informer told the police that Vir Kaur was involved in manufacturing and selling illicit liquor by manufacturing from ENA. A case under the Excise Act and cheating was registered against her. TNS THREE HELD FOR SNATCHING PHONE Amritsar: The police have arrested three snatchers, identified as Mohammad Soni, Farman Ali and Farmandeen, who allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a Verka resident Prince Kumar on January 3. While Soni and Ali were nabbed a few days ago, their third accomplice Farmadeen was arrested on Saturday. The police recovered weapons and the motorcycle used in the crime. TNS 3 months after youth’s mysterious death, cousin booked for murder Tribune News Service Amritsar, January 22 Three months after a youth died allegedly by consuming some drugs, the police have now booked his cousin on the charge of murder. The case was registered following the final postmortem report received by the Majitha Road police here two days ago. The report suggested that the deceased, identified as Manjit Singh, alias Mintu (21), had died as a result of homicidal smothering. Earlier, the police had initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC in the incident. Jaswant Singh, father of the victim who runs a tea stall near Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, told the police that his son used to sell headgear (patka) near the Golden Temple. He said on October 14 last year, his son came to him and demanded money as he could not find even a single customer on that day. He said in the meantime, his sisterin-law Amarjit Kaur and her son Jarnail Singh, who works as a helper at GND Hospital, came and demanded money from Manjit Singh. The accused gave some drugs to his son following which his health deteriorated and he died in the hospital during treatment. Following his complaint, the police initiated inquest proceedings and took the body into custody and sent it for a postmortem. Harinder Singh, SHO, Majitha Road police station, said in the previous report given on October 17 last year, the doctors suggested that the victim had died of asphyxia as a result of smothering. “Now, in the final report which we received a couple of days ago it was revealed that there were injury marks around the deceased’s mouth and nostrils which suggested homicidal smothering caused by some other person. Therefore a murder case was registered against Jarnail Singh as per the statement of the victim’s father,” he said. He said further investigations were in progress. The accused would be arrested soon for further probe. RTI report: Govt yet to collect ~154 cr from colonisers Amritsar, January 22 The Amritsar Development Authority will collect Rs 154 crore pending amount from private colonisers for licensed colonies. This was revealed through an RTI application filed by Suresh Sharma, an RTI activist. Sharma had filed an RTI application in June 2022 about the arrears of licensed colonies in Amritsar. The facts that emerged from the information received were surprising. The ADA said Rs 154.43 crore were due with 35 licensed colonies in the district. Only the first instalment had been deposited by these 35 colonies to apply for the licence. After that, neither any instalment was deposited by the colonisers nor any action had been taken by the department. The RTI activist said after continued on page 2 Girl kidnapped; video with hands tied sent to fiancé Tribune News Service Amritsar, January 22 A 22-year-old girl working at a salon in Ajnala was allegedly kidnapped by several persons while she was returning home at Diyal Bhatti village. The incident came to light when the suspects sent a video and her pictures with hands tied and face covered were sent to her fiancé. Though the police have registered a case in this connection, they are yet to recover Kin get no ransom call; case registered the victim. Illegal colonies razed Tribune News Service Amritsar, January 22 The District Town Planner of Amritsar Development Authority (ADA) started removing illegal colonies here today. DTP Gursewak Singh Aulakh said on the first day, constructions were removed at illegal colonies in the area of Gonsabad and Khairabad on the Ramtirth Road. He said the developers of the unauthorised colony would be punished with imprisonment of three to seven years and a fine of Rs 2 to 5 lakh would be imposed. He appealed to the plot buyers not to waste their money by taking plots in such illegal colonies. The money invested in such colonies would break their dream of owning a house. Aulakh said before taking a plot, people must get an approval from the Punjab Urban Development Authority. ADA Chief Administrator Deep Sikha Sharma instructed to make the city free from illegal colonies. On the instructions of Additional Chief Administrator Rajat Oberoi, various teams of the ADA have been continuously deployed for the work and till these illegal colonies are not removed, the work will continue, said Aulakh.
