Chandeshwar Yadav reported that an unidentified person, posing as his old friend, called him. The person said his daughter was undergoing some treatment and he asked Chandeshwar to deposit Rs 1 lakh to his (caller’s) friend’s account, promising that he was transferring the money to the complainant’s account. The complainant readily sent money to the account number given by the suspect. When no money was transferred to his account, the victim realised that he had been duped. TNS Auction of 92 SCO sites at Sec 39 in last week of March Chandigarh, February 27 The UT Administration has expedited the process to shift the Grain, Fruit and Vegetable Market from Sector 26 to Sector 39. The UT Administration has decided to hold the auction of 92 shop-cum-office (SCO) sites at the new market in Sector 39 in the last week of March. It will be held on a freehold basis at the reserve price of nearly Rs 3.70 crore per SCO site of the size of 120 square yards each. An official of the Chandigarh State Agricultural Marketing Board said the auction would be held as per the terms and conditions of the Chandigarh Estate Rules, 2007. First preference will be given to the existing licensees of the Sector 26 market, said the official, adding that of nearly 170 licensees there, 30 are dealing in grain and the rest in fruit and vegetables. The reserve price has been calculated on the basis of the collector rate of SCOs in Sector 38. He said the Horticulture Department had been directed to remove five trees from the area. The UT Administrator, Banwarilal Purohit, in December last year, gave approval to the auction of 92 SCOs on a freehold basis at the new market under the Chandigarh Estate Rules. The issue of shifting the present market from Sector 26 to Sector 39 has been pending for a long time. The administration had requested the MHA vide a Tribune News Service Chandigarh, February 27 As many as 5,47, 900 challans for various traffic violations have been issued from March, 2022, till February 26 through 900 CCTV cameras installed across the city. According to the figures released by Chandigarh Smart City Limited, around 285 locations in the city are being monitored on a realtime basis via Command and Control Centre through which challans are issued. The locations include intersections, government schools, entry and exit points, watertreatment facilities, parking lots, hospital entrances, gardens etc. As per the recent data, the CCTV surveillance system has assisted the police in solving more than 250 cases in the past seven months, including those of murder, snatching, accident, vehicle theft and burglary. “This component of the Smart City Mission went live in October 2022 and was under stabilisation period for three months till January, 2023. Patiala, February 27 A student of Punjabi University here was allegedly stabbed to death on the campus this afternoon. Navjot Singh, a third-year student of Computer Science Engineering (CSE) at the University College of Engineering (UCoE), succumbed to multiple stab injuries in the stomach. Another student suffered an injury in the head. Officials on the campus said a number of students, including outsiders, had gathered at the UCoE where some of them got into a verbal confrontation, which led to the stabbing incident. Navjot had suffered multiple stab injuries and was taken to the campus dispensary. “They shifted him to the Government Rajindra Hospital as he had lost a lot of blood. He died during treatment there,” they said. University Public Relations Officer Daljit Ami said, “The university has collected CCTV footage of the incident and will submit it to the police. The incident took place around 12.15 pm. As per the CCTV footage, around 24 students were present at the site outside the UCoE when some of them got into an altercation. Navjot suffered multiple stab injuries and was taken to the Government Rajindra Hospital.” The officials said Navjot was a day scholar. According to information, it is a godown where photo frames were stocked. Though the fire was controlled sometime after it broke out at about 1 pm, fire- fighters continued operation till the reports last came in. “It seems oil had been kept there for some PVC work. Smoke continued even at 9 pm. We pressed four fire engines into service,” said a fire official. It is suspected that shortcircuit caused the fire. However, the fire officials were yet to ascertain the exact cause. “Material stored inside the basement has been completely destroyed. No one was hurt in the incident,” added the fire official. The fire was controlled but not before it had spread to other shops on the ground floor, including a jewellery shop. “Two persons were in the godown when fire broke out but they managed to come out unhurt,” said a staff member. The Patiala SSP also paid a visit to the university campus,” another official said. The accused have been identified as Sahne Alam, a resident of Kiratpur village in Bijnore district of Uttar Pradesh and presently residing at Pabhat road, Zirakpur, and Ishrar Khan, a resident of Babipur village, Badayun district in UP and presently residing behind Big Bazar in Zirakpur. While awarding the sentence, District and Sessions Judge Harbir Singh Dahiya also imposed a fine of ~25,000 each on the two accused. The case dates back to April 26, 2021, when the victim, Dimple Arora, a resident of Sector 16, Panchkula, in her complaint to the police, stated that two motorcycle-borne youths had snatched her chain while she was walking near her house. A case under Section 379-B was registered against unidentified persons. Chandigarh, February 27 The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here has announced that the Urology Department will also be performing renal transplant procedures besides the Renal Department. This step will significantly reduce waiting time for patients seeking a kidney transplant. At present, the waiting period for kidney transplant ranges from eight to 10 months at the PGIMER. The first such renal transplant was performed by the Urology Department last week. The Renal Transplant Department receives patients from not only adjoining states but also far-off places, including North-East states, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, UP and Nepal. The total cost of a standard transplant procedure is about Rs 70,000, including the cost of medicines and two weeks of hospital stay for the donor as well as recipient. At present, there are more than 2,500 patients with renal failure who are waiting for a kidney transplant. Zirakpur, February 27 The police have arrested two members of a gang who snatched a mobile phone, a gold chain and a driving licence from the occupants of car on the ChandigarhAmbala highway last night. The police have also recovered the motorcycle used in the crime, a weapon, the mobile phone, the gold chain and the driving licence from the suspects. Meanwhile, three youths, who were riding a motorcycle, made them stop the car. As soon as Gaurav stopped the car, they started hitting him. After injuring Gaurav, the motorcycle-borne youths snatched his gold chain, his friend’s purse and mobile phone.
