The Michelle Yeoh-starrer also broke records, becoming the biggest winner in the history of the show. Another series that has been picking up awards, The White Lotus, a trenchant look at the over-privileged guests at an Italian resort, took home the best TV drama ensemble honour. Everything Everywhere All At Once, one of the few recent Indies to break out in a big way at the box-office, dominated the evening with four wins, followed by The White Lotus, which will be remembered for Jennifer Coolidge, with two victories. Everything Everywhere All At Once has continued to build momentum during a marathon awards season, racking up top prizes as it barrels toward the Oscars in two weeks. This weekend, it nabbed the Producers BRENDAN FRASER Guild Award and last weekend it picked up the Directors Guild Award for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the filmmakers. Michelle Yeoh was named best actress for Everything Everywhere All at Once, and it took her time at the podium to note what her victory meant for other Asian movie fans. “This is not just for me,” she said. “This is for every little girl who looks like me,” Yeoh added. Brendan Fraser earned best actor honours for The Whale. Fighting back tears, Fraser talked about his professional highs and lows in a life that took him from the A-list in the 1990s and to a career downturn that left him off the marquee. “I’ve rode that wave lately, and I’ve also had that wave smash me to the ocean floor,” Fraser said. With Viola Davis, an advocate for social justice and equality for women of colour in Hollywood, bagging the prestigious EGOT, it’s time to acknowledge artistes who have achieved the amazing feat on the basis of their talent. From the early 1900, when first actors of colour, Sam Lucas, Stepin Fetchit and Hattie McDaniel, got their due in show business, things have come afar. Concerns JOHN LEGEND have been raised, and rightful changes made. #OscarsSoWhite, which was first tweeted in 2015, too has pushed for change. Now, leading actors of ‘black’ colour, whose talent is accepted, applauded, have a rightful place in the EGOT hall of fame. VIOLA! She holds two Emmys for The Muppet Show and The Rockford Files in 1977 and 1978, respectively. While The Electric Company got her Grammy Best Album for Children In 1973; her Tony came for The Ritz in 1975. In her 90s now, she has continued her work on screen, and her sports comedy 80 for Brady was released early this month. Second take Guneet Monga and her production house Sikhya Entertainment have signed Umesh Bist, director of Pagglait, for the second time. Talking about it, Guneet Monga says, “Umesh is a prolific storyteller who has a deep and delicate understanding of human emotions, which is his USP That’s why the moving and . extraordinary story of Pagglait touched the hearts of so many people. This is Sikhya’s second collaboration with Umesh Bist.” Meanwhile, Sikhya’s documentary short film The Elephant Whisperers on Netflix is headed to the Oscars. The short film, directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, is the story of an indigenous couple in South India that bonds with an orphaned elephant, Raghu. OTT debut Sony LIV has announced an adaptation of the renowned detective fiction mystery novel The Sittaford Mystery, written by legendary British novelist and queen of the crime genre, Agatha Christie. Titled Charlie Chopra & the Mystery of Solang Valley, the show is helmed by Bhardwaj’s home banner – Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures along with Priti Shahani’s Tusk Tale Films in association with Agatha Christie Limited. Set in the snow-capped mountains of Himachal Pradesh, the series will follow the journey of Charlie Chopra and her quest to uncover a deep mystery. Besides donning the hats of director and co-producer, Vishal Bhardwaj also serves as the show’s coscreenwriter, alongside Anjum Rajabali and Jyotsna Hariharan. Looks like the list is set to become longer, as accomplished American rapper and actor Common, English actress, singer and songwriter Cynthia Erivo, and American actor, singer, writer and director Billy Porter are just a step away from joining the prestigious EGOT club! Rumour mill Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj to make series based on Agatha Christie’s novel The promotion of Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is in full swing. After Chandigarh, Ranbir was in Kolkata recently for the release of the third single from the film. As the actor was spotted playing cricket with Sourav Ganguly at Eden Gardens, it gave birth to rumours on the former doing the biopic of Sourav Ganguly. But Ranbir clarified later, “I think dada (Sourav Ganguly) is a living legend not just in India, but around the world. A biopic on him will be very special. Unfortunately, mujhe yeh film offer nahi huyi hai (I have not been offered this film). The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
