This is the first such policy for teachers in the city. As per the policy, principals of senior secondary schools, and headmasters and headmistresses of high schools will be transferred after completing five years of posting. Lecturers, vocational lecturers, masters, mistresses, classical and vernacular (C&V), junior basic training (JBT), and nursery teacher training (NTT) teachers will be transferred after 12 years of posting in a school for the 2023-24 session and 10 years from 2024-25 session onwards. The policy recommends assessment of school-wise vacancies before carrying out the transfer exercise. All teachers who have completed 12 years and above at a school till the 2023-24 session will be asked to give their choice of fresh posting in the order of preference. A piece of land measuring 4 acres in Mani Majra is proposed to be allotted to the Education Department for the construction of a government school. The land is worth Rs 113.62 crore and may help generate revenue for the civic body. A police spokesperson said continued on page 2 JERC seeks audit report before call on hike in power tariff Chandigarh, March 5 To study energy usage and ways to cut electricity costs, the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has directed the UT Electricity Department to complete the annual energy audit on priority. On a petition submitted by the department to grant approval for revision of the tariff, the commission noted that it had not submitted the energy audit report for the fiscal 202122. Around 5 am, suspect Gurpratap Singh, 22, allegedly trespassed by scaling the wall of the house belonging to victim Jagtar Singh. On being confronted, the suspect punched the victim several times in the chest and pushed him violently as a result of which he hit a tubewell motor and died on the spot. The victim’s two sons and other relatives nabbed the suspect and the sarpanch handed him over to the police. So far, 24,213 smart meters on consumer efficiency in residential and commercial buildings premises had been installed and commissioned. Also, a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Centre for online operation and monitoring of various c m y b activities had been established. However, replacement of 11 kV feeder meters with smart meters was yet to be done by the Regional Electricity Corporation (imple- menting agency). It was expected to be completed within six months. The department further stated since its privatisation was in process, the Smart Grid Project for the entire city had been dropped by the National Smart Grid Mission, the Union Ministry of Power. However, a request for proposal (RFP) for the appointment of a consultant to carry out energy audit of Chandigarh was prepared in accordance with the guidelines and the model RFP issued by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and submitted for accord of revised principle approval from the competent authority. Smart parking, Night Food Street price hike on agenda Chandigarh, March 5 The Municipal Corporation will take a call on key issues, including paid parking lots, new waste processing plant, two community centres, review of policy regarding putting up temporary tableschairs outside eating joints and increase in rates at the Night Food Street, during its House meeting on Monday. As per the smart parking system, introduction of the FASTag-enabled parking management system at the 89 paid parking lots has been proposed. All lots have been planned to be monitored through the Integrated Command and Control Centre. The drivers of vehicles without FASTag will be able to pay with other digital payment methods such as UPI and Paytm, and even with cash. Contracts of the two firms managing these lots expired last month. Further, the recommendations of the Council of Scientific and Industrial ResearchNational Environment Engineering Research Institute, Nagpur (CSIR-NEERI), have already been accepted to install a new integrated solid waste processing plant in Dadu Majra. On the basis of the recommendations, wet waste will be converted into biomethane and CNG, while dry waste will be turned into refuse-derived MC MEET TODAY To also take call on waste processing plant fuel. Following approval of the House, a tender for setting up the plant will be floated. The project will have to be completed within two years. The current plant is not processing waste as required. Besides, the House will decide on a policy regarding permission for putting up temporary tables and chairs in front of eating joints. The MC has proposed to charge such joints on the basis of the outside area covered and not on the basis of the number of chairs and tables put up, which is the current practice. A proposal on constructing new community centres in Sectors 24 and 51 will also be taken up. — TNS
